Or if the woman just says you're the father in some cases. I've read a few stories about men that were proven by DNA tests to not be the childs father and the judges still made them pay child support. It's fucked up if you ask me...

yeah. if you act as the father for part of the time then divorce and the child is not yours you are fucked.

makes me glad im married am 100% sure the kids are mine.
 
Child support isn't for the parents, but for the child, so what the parents did to get the child is irrelevant.
 
what happens if two women marry & decide to adopt a child and then get a divorce. This all is assuming they get married in states where it is allowed ofcourse

100% right. but there are some cases where child support SHOULD not be forced.

nobody is saying if the child is NOT the mans that he shouldn't pay.
 
nah i dont think so,, prob depends on the state. but Im sure the guy could sue for civil damages to at least = the amount of support. no?

As someone who grew up as part of the system and watched my Mom spend the child support money on crap for her boyfriends while I thawed out pie crusts to feed myself and my little sis... Yeah.....

....and it wasn't just me. I (obviously) grew up poor, around lots of kids with single mothers, and most them were so horrible with money that the kids would suffer the same no matter if there was child support coming in or not.



Our child support system needs completely reworked.

there is really no way to rework it. it is to go the parent with the child to help pay for rent, food, utilites etc.

Couldn't the payer of child support pay for certain things directly, or an escrow account that gets billed monthly for agreed upon necessities?

not a bad idea. but i suspect it would cause more trouble then its worth. not to mention to many women would be against it heh.

ITA. My cousin used to have to go to a friend's house to eat while his mom spent the child-support money on alcohol and drugs. Thankfully he was taken away from her before he was totally messed up. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about her other kids who look to be completely following in her footsteps.

If you really get into what makes the child support system work it has a LOT more to do with lobbyists and politics than the well-being of the child.


It's sort of a 'self-perpetuating' system where the people that can change it benefit from the way it is.


Really, truly, if you think the child support system is a good thing or a necessary evil you need to read up a bit on how it actually works and can be used.

More trouble than it's worth??


Some sort of caseworker managed escrow account would be MUCH better than the current system, although I'm definitely no expert on what the best method would be.


The current system is a TON of trouble. Lots of people make money off of a divorce with child support proceedings. I can't imagine that having a managed escrow account would be more expensive or more trouble.
