The yankees have been playing well against the Sox, but I still don't think they really have a shot at taking the division, even if they sweep today.

A shot? Sure, they have a shot. Is it likely? Obviously not.

Okay, I meant a realistic opportunity. Outside of this series it seems like they have struggled mightily in close games this year and they have not taken care of business nearly as well as I would have expected versus sub 500 teams

Ahhh, but that was before the Joba experience. 🙂

Yeah, he's been awesome. He certainly has electric stuff, but there is no way he'll remain as lights-out as he's been. If you're a yankees fan you also have to hope that Torre doesn't ride him into the ground during this season and the next.
I honestly dont' get the Yankees. Or the Red Sox for that matter. I'm a huge Sox fan, so I'll get that out there, but both of these teams confuse me. The sox are a machine this year. They just grind out wins over long enough period of time to have a good winning percentage. There isn't much excitement though. Few late-game rallies, few bullpen blowups, etc.
The Yankees, on the other hand, went from being absolutely awful to the best team in baseball following the All-Star break. Then they get iced by Detriot. Now they rock the Red Sox.
I don't get it 😕

Torre can't do it this year, not yet anyway. There are set rules about using him which Torre cannot cross. He gets a day off for every inning pitched. It may change, but that's the deal now. The Yankees still say they want him in the starting rotation next season. We shall see.

As you know, that's baseball. Every team, no matter how talented will be hot and cold. It's very rare that a team just plows through the entire season without hitting rough stretches. THe difference is WHEN you hit it. 🙂

and the way cano has done a number on schilling so far the rest of the yankees line-up could go up to bat with sawed off table legs.

Yankees will crash and burn this September. Every break has gone their way and that can't last forever.
