winnar!

anyhow, my friend had a chicken before, it started as a young chick which was cute and all; and then it just grew... fast, and turned ugly. She then wanted me to kill it coz it is shitting every where and running wild (noisy too). It was quite surprising at myself that I don't have the guts to kill it. any way, she 'freed' it by letting it off the streets... in Los Angeles... either the hobos took care of it or those Civics with lower springs.

LMAO, post of the day!

your rm is crazy. even when kept outside, they defecate everywhere enough to be a real nuisance.

get a caged bird or something instead

Want a duck?

Sure, would it be cooked as Peking Duck, or Duck L'Orange? :D

I dont give a damn, so long as you take it!

What's wrong with the duck?

Nothing! Hes great!
I just dont want it.

OK then, now if you can roast the duck ala Peking Duck style :p

and then freeze it before sending it to me, then all's good

BTW, I hope you don't mind sending the duck all the way across the

world to the land down under where people stands upside down :p

He doesn't want it: duck thread

Oh, I see -- impulse buying.

My mom bought me a pet pangolin (scaly anteater) when I was little,

But that poor creature didn't even last a week after we got home --

Apparently some stray cats got into its enclosure and killed it :(

Chickens are FILTHY! You do NOT want them in your house. You can't exactly train them to use a litter box ya know...

ive got chickens living in my neighborhood, so heres my semi-expert info:

1. yes, theyll poop on everything.
2. yes, theyll damage EVERYTHING.
3. yes, the dog will eat them. which will be the best part of the whole arrangement.

I once swung a chicken over my head a few times and then it barfed. So, if you want barf all over the house, then swing those chickens over your head mercilessly. I'm not kidding, BTW.

Wow, after all the chicken experts have replied in this thread, I just wanted to ask... what kind of chicken?
Some breeds are cleaner/smarter than others.

Not much of a difference between a chicken shitting and a parrot all over the house... I'm assuming your room-mate is going to keep it in a cage (rather than just running loose?)

I agree that chickens are not the most ideal indoor pet; but a growing number of indoor pets are just as poorly suited as indoor pets.
But, if your room-mate is going to get one... hopefully a cool looking one. Here are a few suggestions:
http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/product/bantam_sultan.html
this one referred to as the best pet chicken: http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/product/white_frizzle_cochin.html

Her best bet though is to get a bantam, because of the size difference.

Sadly, that's a bad assumption.

Reason for wanting one? Dunno, she was all excited about it. She said, "and we get eggs!" like it was an after thought.

She is a Vet-Med student. Today, she brought a little lean-to type structure. I don't know if she expects them to roost there or what. (yes Roost, not Roast like I would prefer.)

I'm definitely against them being in the house, and I think she'll change her mind when they are in the house.

Yeah, she'll probably change her mind. But, they can be trained (if she works at it long enough)

Avian/bird flu really shouldn't be a problem though (as alluded to above) A chicken kept confined inside will avoid most of the vectors for the transfer of that virus.

your roomate is a complete idot. does she expect to train it to crap in a litter box? A vet-med student all full of viger wanting to make her house Noha's Ark. I suggest you get out now.
