Definitely the thigh, dark meat is vastly better than white meat, and the thigh is most versatile piece of dark meat.

What was your Mother's cooking like? What did you grow up eating?

And put it this way - if I could just remove my sense of taste, and eat nothing but "meal pills" or some sort of substance that efficiently met all of my nutritional requirements, I would gladly accept it. The main thing taste is really useful for, as far as I'm concerned, is telling if food has spoiled. Other than that, it's just irritating.

I'm sure she was a good cook; my dad and sister always liked what she made.
All the spices and flavorings, it's like taking a party of people and music equipment and putting it all through a giant blender - it's not a party anymore, and it's just a little gross. (And possibly disturbing, but I'll exclude that for the sake of the example. 😉)

Chicken leg. Organic chicken that is. Free range chickens may apply also.

No, I do too. Food is one of the great pleasures in life.

I realize you're content but it's difficult not to see your choices as limited. I won't stoop to using a silly analogy to try and describe why, but it seems like, without some biological imperative, you're just being obtuse. It is possible that there are individuals for whom intensity of flavor is a negative expeirence, if so I'm not familiar with the condition.
In essence, I can't help but feel sorry for you. Diversity of flavor experience is enjoyable, I'm sorry you're cut off from that experience.
Good luck.
Geeeez, it's just nutrients your bod needs to survive. It's "good" because your brain evolved to tell you that so you wouldn't starve to death.Originally posted by: Chronoshock

I use sub $2 a pound boneless, skinless factory farm chicken breast like I use tofu . . . as a recipient of flavor in an overall recipe, a textural counterpoint and addition, and a source of protein in same. It has it's place.
Otherwise, yeah. Thigh > breast and organic free range > free range > factory farm raised.
I wanna' hear more about chicken gizzards (pearls?) 'cause I'm a big, dumb white Northern white guy. Gizzard loves, inflame me with desire for them by the sheer eloquence of your posts. 😛

I sure hope food isn't one of life's greatest pleasures. That just seems.....well, I'd hope for more out of life than that.
Oh well. If you love food, fine, incorporate it into whatever else you get out of life. Me, I guess eating is just a chore, like brushing teeth or showering. Something that simply needs to get done.
Ns1 - prepare to be pillaged. 😛

Do you hate Onions too? 😱
Onions - yes. They're ok if they're sufficiently mixed in with something else, with some of the spiciness gone from them, but I generally don't care for onions.
Garlic, too, I don't like. It leaves an unpleasant and very distracting aftertaste that persists for hours.
Yeah, that happens. 🙂Originally posted by: Perknose
Wow. I've been rendered speechless. 🙁
It caused tension at home, too. For many years, my mom would always keep making me "try" new foods. It got to the point where I learned that "Try it, it's delicious!" meant bad, bad news. She loved PA Dutch stuff, like chow-chow, or other things, like quiche. One kind of quiche stank so bad, I'd leave the house just to keep from gagging. Broccoli quiche, maybe?
It took a long, long time, like maybe mid-teen years, when she finally stopped, and if she'd feel like cooking something, it would be from the limited selection of "bland" things I'd eat.
But hey, cooking for me is pretty easy. No excessive or lengthy preparations, no huge ingredients lists, and very few dirty dishes.
