What about that would resolve my anger? Nobody attacked the LEO, I dont see any other firearms...what am I missing.
Well he shot someone who was stabbing someone.

It's a bit different than shooting an unarmed person with their hands up like this thread is about.

Ok, I didn't see a knife. I found that body cam footage prior to your post and still didnt see a knife. I agree, having a weapon and using it while a LEO is standing there is a bad move. I read the article, which said there appeared to be a knife, but didn't see it. Maybe I need to put my glasses on

Edit: while that may resolve my anger over another shooting death, it's doesn't resolve my anger about the police at the scene response of "blu lives matter", they should probably stfu. Unfortunately, that's not on the video above either, just the people filming it responding to it.

and yet they never had to shoot this guy

strange coincidence, they flew a chopper over the city at low altitude a couple of nights ago, interesting flight path

A reporter at the press conference asked “based on the video we just watched, what de escalation procedures did we see the officer employ” and the dudes eyes visibly bulged

Make sure not to give the full context of things - just keep spouting BS.

I'm sure it's because she was "mostly peaceful" lol

Your selective choosing of what to report on and what to magically forget about and not mention just shows you have a narrative to sell. You're not interested in what the truth is - you're interested in fairy tales and idiocracy.

Then change the rules of your union. Those rules protect bad guys you work with. If you are all good, you can get together and make change. Cops already get together to call in sick when they are threatened pay cuts. They already work together to get rid of other cops who "snitch" or embezzle money from cop funds, and they are very successful at it. I would HOPE that being in a profession where your LITERAL JOB is to GET BAD GUYS, that you would fight really hard to be able to get rid of any LITERAL BAD GUYS who work with you. The consistent firing/demotion/intimidation/mistreatment of cops who attempt this and the deafening silence or even glowing approval toward cops who do bad speaks volumes. The "well our hands are tied" snowflake defense doesn't work anymore when cops have already proven that they will go to great lengths to get what they want and they almost always get it. They don't WANT to be held accountable. And that is shitty.

Did you read more than 10% of what I wrote?

One of the major reasons for unions existing is to make it hard to fire members without sufficient cause. Doesn’t matter what sector at all.

If there is internal pressure in an agency to screw over police officers who won’t lie or cover things up, to protect bad officers that’s a different issue.

From a legal standpoint the union is required to assist in mounting a legal defence. They should do that, but not more.

Due process is important no matter what the allegation.

I never said anything about "poor, decent guys." Do not put straw words in my mouth.

Their CBA's don't say "you can't be fired for being evil." Derp derp.

They say same damn things that every union contract says: in order to be terminated, whatever the reason, there is a review process and multiple appeals. The fact that their union contracts say the same things as other unions contracts is not a coincidence. It's because every unionized profession bargains for the same thing. And it's not as if people in other professions cannot be accused of criminal misconduct while on the job. Which puts them all in the same boat by what passes for your "logic."

In any event, this discussion is pointless, because you have no actual ideas, just an emotion. Here is the only actual idea: if you want to hold police accountable, then change the law. Being mad at the police for having such union contracts is your prerogative but leads nowhere.

I have lots of ideas. I think the best idea is to require personal professional liability insurance. It solves the problem. First, it places liability on the insurer/insured instead of me the taxpayer. If YOU fuck up, why do I need to pay for it? Second, you do enough shit and you're uninsurable and therefore unemployable. You're out. This works awesome in literally every industry/profession it has ever been tried in. That isn't an emotion, it is a solution.

I am unclear why you think I personally need to be the one to find a solution. Cops have already discovered how to bend the rules and bypass the CBAs in order to fire/demote/harass/intimidate and otherwise get rid of cops who try to stop bad cops from being bad. They can get rid of cops they don't like and they are quite efficient at it. I am not required to solve your fucking problems that you already know how to solve. IF YOU ARE GOOD, then solve the problem. If you are evil, then be a special snowflake and hide behind your CBA "wah we can't do anything" whenever it's time to punish a bad cop. Horseshit. Either fucking solve it or admit you are all pieces of shit. The end.

There IS emotion involved. The emotion is profound disappointment and a deep feeling of betrayal by the people who we have given trust, honor, respect, the benefit of the doubt, large salaries, large retirements, and massive benefits. The disappointment is compounded by people like you who say "what are your ideas? why don't you solve it? derp derp". Fucking hell we (not cops) shouldn't HAVE to solve this problem since these people are literally cops whose literal job is to find ways to get the bad guys, not to PROTECT the bad guys and punish the people who try to bust the bad guys.

What is missing is your emotion. Why doesn't this piss you off? Why do you feel unmotivated for change? Do you LIKE how things are? What is your solution?

Did you read what I wrote? Cops already know how to get other cops fired for snitching. They know how to gang up on , harass, intimidate, and fire cops who do "bad things" (aka snitch on) to other cops. They know how to get what they want, and they demonstrate remarkable efficiency until it is time to get rid of the bad cop. Why are cops badass at getting rid of a cop who reports a bad cop, but whiny little bitches about getting rid of the actual bad cop?

I never tasked you with solving the problem. YOU responded to my post suggesting that we pass laws to preclude certain terms in collective bargaining agreements - a perfectly good idea - to express your anger at police for having the terms of begin with, as if your emotion was somehow an alternative to my actual idea for reform. So of course my response was, OK, so you're pissed. And?

It's not union rules. It's federal law that the union has to protect all members equally in cases of discipline.

She's in the process of stabbing someone. In mid swing with a knife.

No doubt that this is a good shoot. The girl in pink owns her life or at least her health top that cop.

BLM and activists would be ill advised to take up this one. It would do the cause great deal of harm.

Wouldn't be the first time. Jacob Blake, for example, turned out to be an entirely different scenario than what was initially depicted. And that one resulted in a big protest, which ultimately cost two people their lives. While the shooter was a punk kid who thought he was some sort of nativist GI Joe, it would never have happened had they not been protesting a perfectly good shoot to begin with.

I really do wish that people would wait a little before forming an opinion about these kinds of cases rather than reacting on raw emotion.

This columbus shooting appears to be justified.

The columbus shooting last month of an unarmed black guy opening his door with multiple shots fired into his back is more of a question. He was not involved in any crime or even accused of a crime.

The jacob blake shooting was not justified in my opinion. We've seen white people do worse and not get shot.

No emotion here. I'm watching her charge and wildly swing the point of a knife at the girl in pink.

What in the world beyond conspiracy theory mind control is going to make that NOT attempted murder by Bryant and somehow a bad shoot????

Right, but you aren't the problem. Many other people are.

That is rushing to judgment.

We're at a point where people are sincerely completely brainwashed stupid.

I've seen everything - from suggesting that the cop go in and karate chop the knife out of her hand - to even HILARIOUS things like "OMG why did he shoot her in the chest, should have aimed for her hand!"

There is sincerely no fix for stupidity of this magnitude. Once again, our failure in our shtihole public education is undoubtedly the biggest culprit that allows this level of stupidity to thrive.

Well, let's face it, The police have an image/reputation problem when it comes to the shooting of black people now.

People are inflamed and justifiably on edge. They are also sick top death of hearing how "every shooting" is "justified."

But you are correct, this can only hurt the cause. It's sad, but at least I can see why they are reacting this way

Probably just trolling. I'm sure you understand.

Says the guy who comes from the side in which some 70% firmly believe in a Qult conspiracy theory, 90% blindly believes the election was "stolen" with zero evidence and has become the big tent party for anti-vaxxers (nearly all now have coalesced under Q), flat earthers and lizard people believers and actually mounted a physical assault on our nation's capitol.

Not to mention your side is the side in which EVERY SINGLE WHITE SUPREMACIST org identifies...

But yeah, people mourning the loss of a juvenile life (one the entire system obviously failed, even though her death was justified as the end result of that failure) and asking why it couldn't be saved from a position of ignorance about policing are the stupid ones in this society.

Yeah, THAT is the "stupidity" YOU need to focus on, am I right?

Ok...

Yes, well clearly the police have an "image and reputation problem" but the question is why.

Sure, some of it has to do with legitimately bad misconduct.

But much also has to do with the media. Every year cops kill about 1000 people in this country. About 30-40 seem to make national media coverage. That's about 3-4%. Automatically excluded from coverage are: 1. if the victim is white, which happens about twice as often as a black victim, 2. if the victim is black or of color but the killing was inarguably justified.

This really started just about 10 years ago, fueled by the advent of smart phones and viral video.

If all we're hearing about when it comes to policing are cases where a white cop kills a black person under circumstances which at least suggest a possible bad shoot, then of course the police are going to have an image problem.

And it isn't only the media's selection bias. To some extent, it's also the coverage. Often remarks initially made by activists or, say, the victim's family's attorney, are repeated uncritically, as if they are the official narrative. Then when the facts turn out to be different, the media will correct them but by then it's too late to refute the initial impression.

Given that this is the version of reality we are reading and hearing about, I too can well understand why people tend to rush to judgment.

"Things aren't getting worse, they are just getting filmed"

Deaths are the most volatile aspect of this, but the real problem is how, in virtually EVERY ASPECT OF SOCIETY, blacks face vastly different treatment than whites. In this case, by the police and justice system.

I do not, in any way shape or form, thing the BLM and equality movement is overstating or hyping anything.
