To ensure EXT can tow even heavier loads, this fall it will add an optional 5.3-liter V-8 that develops 280 hp and produces 320 foot-pounds of torque. No mileage rating as yet, but have to suspect the V-8 will open Chevy to charges that yet another gas-guzzling SUV is draining oil reserves.

Sounds like a nice unbiased review.

So they now have Tracker, Blazer, Trailblazer, Trailblazer EXT, Tahoe, and Suburban. Gosh, I hope they don't come out with another new one, they might run out of names. I think six different SUV models are enough for now, eh?

Toyota - Rav4, Highlander, Sequoia, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser. That's five models :)

Or even worse - Escape, Explorer, Explorer Sport, Explorer Sport Trac, Expedition, Excursion. Oh my!

Looks fine to me. And it seats seven, something a lot of people need.

what?! Very few people need room for seven.

One of my brothers has four kids, the other, three. When you go to sporting events, Boy Scout meetings, camping, etc., you often end up taking a few of their friends too. Ask any parent if they need room only for them and their kids. You'll quickly learn they need room for their kid's friends and for carpooling.

Very few my ass.

Just because you often see mothers or fathers driving alone in family SUVs does NOT mean they don't need them. In fact, 50% of the time they WILL be alone after dropping the rug rats off somewhere. Add to that the errands they run while the kids are in school, and they are driving alone 70% of the time. Just because you see them at that time, and not when they have a carload of kids does NOT mean they don't need a car that big. Should Taxi drivers ride motorcycles because you see them empty half the time?

Blazer is gone, and I think the Tracker is coming to and end also... what do you have to say to the 7 Toyota has to offer?

Edit: oops, Vi covered it ;)

Also add the MDX to that list of 3 rows. With 2 child seats and usually 3 adults in the car, 5 passenger just doesn't cut it for me anymore and I'm usually one of the first ones to say they don't like big SUVs.

How is this biased? They are just making an observation, and one that appears warranted by the already-mediocre mileage of the V-6 version.

Ha! Compare the milage of the I6 from GM to any other V6 in it's class. It's as good as if not better than any of the others, and it puts out anywhere from 25%-50% better HP/Tq ratings. It even outclasses most V8's in it's class as well.

You can fit 6 people in a Dakota, whats your point? You need an SUV to run errands? I'm all for an SUV to go offroading in, i think thats fun, but your arguements are wrong.

My parents had 5 kids and never had an SUV.

There is a difference between engineering a vehicle to COMFORTABLY hold 6 people, and designing a vehicle to be able to cram in 6 people in a pinch. The Dakota is the second description.

My parents had 5 kids and never had an SUV.

My parents had five kids and had a full size van. Even then it wasn't big enough for camping trips and we had to buy a trailer.

What, are parents supposed to buy ANOTHER car to run errands in while their kids are in school, or while they aren't carpooling their kids and other kids? Are they not allowed to use the same car they cart their kids around in to go to the supermarket? What kind of crappy logic is that?

My arguments are from experience. Yours are from bias. SUVs are bought for their size, not their offroading capability. Most aren't even 4wd. A full size SUV offers more seating and cargo room than a full size fan.

And I wont even go into how absurd it is to mention a Dakota seating 6. YOU sit in a Dakota with 6 people for five hours while going camping.

If you can fit six people in a Dakota and be comfortable for a long period of time, you're either full of sh!t or you live in a family of midgets.
