2002 Chevrolet Camaro: Due to poor sales and end of factory contract, the Camaro is expected to fade away during the 2002 model year. GM has announced that there will be a special edition version, likely with 15-20 more horsepower now that the Corvette has moved up the scale. There's much speculation about a replacement. Common rumors include: a more affordable Corvette trim level would take up some slack, leaving Pontiac to cover the rest; introduce a variation of (LS1 V-8-powered sporty wagon); and a redesign as a proper coupe more like the first generation 1967-1969 than the more sports-car-like current generation.

3) SUV's
4) The Camaro is a rather LARGE car to be a two-seater. (193 inches long for the Camaro compared to 183 for the Mustang...the Z28 also weight roughly 300lbs more than a Mustang GT)

It has been reported that the Chevy SSR pickup (6.1 liter V8 and retractable hardtop) would replace the Camaro.

IMHO, Chevy should drop the weight on the Camaro to get it UNDER or AT 3000lbs. Then stick in slightly detuned LS1 V8 to provide the same power-to-weight ratio.

ugh, i HATE that ssr thing. reminds me of those old cars that were like a station wagon with a flatbed instead of a trunk and backseat...can't think of the name right now. so ugly.

whatever they do, keep it rear wheel drive. those are becoming more an more rare with every new car released.

my mustang 5.0 was $80/month with my 8 ticket record. Quoted for a 01 top end camaro $350/month..


needless to say after the $650/month in payments for the pimp camaro, and $350/month for insurance, i could just keep my old ride and buy a house

Camaro's fit a small niche market: people who care more about price/performance than anything else... they're great to race but not really practical otherwise... Who goes for f-bodies other than 16-25 y/o males?

Mustangs have more of a &quot;history&quot;... and women really like to drive mustangs... since the redesign, it's a pretty feminine car so it appeals to a broader market...

Spamela its regretable to think that you judge people based on what they drive. Do you refuse to accept help from women in the hardware store or judge people on what they wear?

The reasons are exactly what nfs said, its just not where the money is right now. The camaro is the better car compared to the mustang, but the women prefer the mustang so it sells better. Suvs are killing the sports cars. Times will change and the factories will retool for the next fad.

Emulex is correct. Camaro insurance is extremely high. A Camaro can hit about 160 mph where a Mustang GT can barely break 140. Naturally the insurance is much more expensive.

Mustangs are fun to drive and sound great. You get the great sounding V8 and the rear drive experience but at a cheaper price than the Camaro. It's an acceptable trade off for most people.
