wait a minute, hold on, if manning is actually unable to form judgment due to manning's unsound mind, then manning is unable to fully understand the implications of the activities undertaken. in which case, punishment is also delegitimized.

so, rather than "no consequences," it's consequences not high enough. for someone who, you admit, is unable to form proper judgment.

I find this outpouring of compassion for this traitor to be odd. There are many more deserving victims of mass incarceration, often black, in our prisons. Focus there.

There is no proof. There definitely is politics. Trannies are crazy and no one wants to actually tell these men that they can't be women because it just isn't worth the trouble, while trannies obviously are emotionally invested and so they will harass researchers until they get something favorable to their mental illness.

Fuck off

Because, let's be clear, trans is a mental illness. It isn't objectively real, it is just a manifestation of some messed up mental state. It is about as real as a tattoo is real.

There's that empathy the talk radio crowd is so famous for.

Way to sound like another social authoritarian asshole desura, bravo.

I'm thinking Chelsea should probably be granted a pardon, but Snowden can lay in the bed he made.

What does being trans have to do with the topic at hand?

I feel sorry for him. His father was definitely a jerk. But that doesn't excuse what he did. Him being trans just goes to show the lack of judgement and unsound mind he possesses and it delegitimizes the legitimacy of any whistleblowing.

Tattoos are real. I've seen one myself.

Why on Earth would you favor pardoning Manning, who indiscriminately did a lot of damage in a hissy fit of hate for military culture, and not Snowden who exposed things we should all want stopped?

Perhaps he is not questioning whether 7 years was enough so much as he might be questioning why you would not be willing to give a pass to Snowden when you're willing to give a pass to Manning.

Exactly. Personally I'd as soon spend seven years in prison as spend seven years expecting to be murdered while hanging out with Putin, and as far as motivation I find Snowden's motivation to be at least laudable whilst Manning's is merely revenge against everyone because he/she didn't fit in.

Edit: I see the part you were responding to now.

I support a pardon for Snowden too. Obama said he's not doing it, and I don't agree with him. I do think you're being cavalier about the conditions in Leavenworth. I doubt exile in Russia is fun, but Manning as noted in this thread, has tried to kill himself a couple of times.

I took it to mean 7 years is a sentencing more in line with reality than a simply a case of a bail out on account of a suicide attempt. As noted in an earlier post, 35 years is more time than traitors have gotten for selling state secrets for profit. The time needs to be weighed against the crime, as well as precedent.

Implying that America has ever had sensible or consistent sentencing.

The here and now is always a good place as any to start.

The flipside is that we could simply sentence people that sell military secrets to life. I have no problem with her pardoned, but most arguments in favor of it seem to be "She's depressed, let her free 🙁((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((". We sure as hell shouldn't set being the worst kind of traitor as the low bar. It's like people that say "Oh, this football player got 6 months probation for rape, why should this armed robber get life?", the real problem is that the dangerous people get off.

this guy is bad ass...

Held at ADX due to multiple prison escapes; escaped from the Ward County Jail in Minot, ND in 1987 by using lip balm to slip out of handcuffs, from the ND State Penitentiary in Bismarck in 1992 by crawling through a ventilator duct, and from USP Pollock in Louisiana in 2006 by mailing himself out of prison in a crate.[104][105]

Screw Bradley Manning. I really hope he succeeds in offing himself. One day.
Auditioning for the role of Satan in the Anandtech forum musical?

My suggestion is that you brush up on your trolling and threadcrapping at 4chan, where the real macho gifts from God to humanity tend to gather.

Manning should serve the sentence that was awarded by the court for the traitorous acts that were commited.
Exactly. I don't see how anything that has transpired since should change that. Given the inclination, leftists can find "special circumstances" surrounding nearly any inmate that should result in his or her release. Society can't afford to indulge all these sophomoric inclinations. We are a nation with a basis in the rule of law and there are very important reasons behind that.

Having said that I would be amazed if 0bama does not commute Manning's sentence. I'm actually looking forward to the misfit list.
