Going from $0.89 to $0.99 does require more than a dollar after you add tax (unless you live somewhere with sales tax greater than 13%). So his complaint does have merit...

Well most places have sales tax on food so you're in the minority.
Here in Ohio, there is no sales tax for food ordered to go, or at the drive-thru. Only when ordering to eat inside is tax added.
