Could a Pizza not be classed as a layer cake? As in a pie that has no pastry top? A cheesecake has no top. 😕

No, because it's a topping and not a filling.

What about deep pan? They get filled. <puff> <--you, in logic.

No, they get toppings. Show me a pizza that's for sale in the UK with a lid (therefore making it a pie) and I'll do something degrading in return.

Show me a cheesecake with a lid.

There are none, ergo, it is a cake.

It's a pie.

No, it's a cake. I like moist cake.

Is this a cake?

No, that's a lump of cheese.

What if I put a nice biscuity layer underneath it? Is it a cake? A pie?

"Cheese & biscuits".

Then Cheesecake = Cheese & biscuits? 😕

No, cheesecake = cheesecake.

PIE
I say that is a pizza. A pizza is a variation of a pie, but not a pie. Just like a tart is a variation of a pie (but it is too short to be a pie).

It is a derivation of a pie, a Pizza Pie. You hear it all the time.

Pizza = Pie.

Yes, I hear it all the time and each time it sounds stupid. They are too different to be called the same thing.

Pie does not equal pizza. A cat is an animal, but an animal is not necessarily a cat. You don't say, "Fluffy is a white cat animal" or "Max is a loyal dog animal". There is no reason to use both words for it.

They each are important enough to deserve their own category. Yes, they are based on the same theme, but like a tart is not a pie, a pizza is not a pie.

You can call it pizza pie or pizza, but you can't call it pie.
"What kind of pie would you like for dessert?"
"Pizza"
"WTF, stupid?!?"

All this talk of Pizza has left the Cheescake voting level with 50% saying Pie and 50% saying cake.

And that's all because you signed up for a bunch more accounts to rig the powhl, you cheating bastage. Donkey copter piecake FTW.

\That's great, but cheesecake isn't filled. It's cheese on a base. For that matter, pizza is not pie either because it's not filled with anything.

Pizza is filled with PIZZA SAUCE. Pizza sauce and awesomeness that is.

Um, no. It would only be "filled" with sauce if you had a layer of crust on top and the sauce was fully enclosed. Pizza is topped with sauce (among other ingredients) not "filled" with sauce.

You must go crazy in the presence of lemon meringue pie, or pecan pie, or pumpkin pie. After all, they don't have a crust on top.

If we follow that line of reasoning a bit further, we find that the pessimists are right...a glass of water cannot be "half-full" unless it has a lid. Also, you haven't actually "filled" your gas tank until you put the cap back on.

Then call it cheesepie and get laughed at by donkeys.
Cheesepie is not its name. Its name is cheesecake. But that doesn't make it a cake. It is still a pie that was misnamed at one point in its life.

I can see this issue is something that can only be solved by judicious application of small scale thermonuclear arms.
