She finished the kill about an hour after this video was filmed.

Missy

demographics:
age: 13 or so
gender: female
weight: 10 pounds
weapons: declawed in the front

History:
We adopted her 11 years ago from someone who took her in as a stray. She is probably about 13-14 years old.

The 2006 kill list can be found somewhere in the archives...She got up to about 99 or so last year... towards the end of the season we had some snow that made it hard to track her gifts accurately.

Context:
She is an indoor cat that loves to hunt. We do not intentionally let her out... she is very good at running out whenever someone opens the door.

We live in a suburban house where the subdivision has lots ranging from 1/2 to 1.5 acres. There are a lot of hunting grounds for her.

My cat got its ass kicked by a grasshopper. I am not joking.

He plays fetch with those tamper-evident rings that come on milk jugs, though. Beat that.

and to think, this is just what you find out about... domestic cats are terrible for songbird populations

My cat loves those damn plastic rings from milk containers. One of his favorite toys.

lmfao. Last night I was going to start a thread: "DrPizza's cat vs. Homebrewerdude's cat 2007" My cat is up to 2 mice and one bird. She doesn't leave them for us... nooooo. That'd be too simple. She eats half of them, and leaves the leftover bits for us.

2nd that.

I don't know why people think it's funny that their pest kills all the indigenous species of animals in the area.

If someone's pest cat came into my yard and started killing off the hummingbirds and other critters that run around, the cat would be next.

My cat used to bring me lizards and birds every so often.. its too bad that I live where there are not enough animals for her to catch.

winter.. ever heard of it?

You mean that time of year when the tar in the roads becomes solid again?

Sorry, I forget you northerners have cold weather.

Good lord.

The fact that there are no longer natural preditors for the bird populations in urban and suburban areas, cats are needed to keep the bird and rodent populations in check.

Birds are in no more danger of going extinct than rats and mice... and are just as annoying.

Some birds are just rats with wings. :)

Yes. Our goddamn neighbors behind us are FULLY aware that their cats regularly cross our fence and stalk our birds (we have multiple feeders which are at least 25ft from the fence, if not more) yet they do NOTHING to fix the situation. They've already had one cat get run over because they let their cats out all the time and don't do sh!t to keep them in line.

I'll be honest, I'd like to just shoot the damn things, but I suppose that isn't really an option. We've thought about just trapping them and taking them to a shelter though. Oh well..

My folks cat goes through the local rabbit populations like a knife through butter, the problems only start when he's cleaned out a new batch of rabbits, then he turns his attention to lizards and birds ;)

He brought in a pigeon the other day ;)

It amuses me greatly to listen to 'holier than thou' cat haters. It's not as if those suburban birds you love so much haven't been slightly affected by humans building fscking houses there, and then feeding them to artificially boost their populations :p

Holier than thou cat haters? I don't hate cats, but I sure as hell hate it when they repeatedly come into my backyard to kill sh!t. They can kill all the crap they want in their own back yard, fine by me.

Granted the cats that have been stalking in our backyard have had more trouble from the mockingbirds than from us.

;)

I saw my folks cat chase a possum up a tree, the possum gave him a swipe on the nose that made my eyes water, and he backed off pretty quickly ;) Now if they'd tangled on the level, that would have been somewhat more of a fair fight (he's about 7kg)...

I have to admit other people's cats in your yard are very annoying, our poor little kitty keeps getting her ass whooped by a huge Siamese that lives a few blocks away :|

One day i WILL skin that thing ;)
