That is gross. Definitely worse than anything I have had to work with.

Keyboard goop??? Me runs off to check and expects grossness.

Edit: I cannot believe they left those pics up. Please remind me never to return to that sight again.
 
How does someone even get to that point? I'd think that at some time before now they would realize "hey, this crap has been piling up and it's actually pretty nasty," but instead they somehow ignore it until it's past being nasty and well into despicable territory.

I'm familiar with it, in fact my fiancee's dad is that way and I've spent some time at their house, but that's a lot different than understanding how someone can be that way. It just makes no sense, they have to ignore so many signs that they're doing it wrong on a daily basis that I just don't see why the issue isn't self-correcting.

Fortunately she isn't a hoarder and is actually pretty irritated with her dad's hoarding, so I don't think I'll have to deal with it too much in the future. But, if for some reason I ever help them move I'm bringing one of these.

How bad is his house? Some people only have mild cases of it, like just messy desk x1000. Others have it REALLY bad! Like this:
