Rolex watches are tacky and overpriced for the relatively mediocre quality you receive.
Anyone who enjoys quality timepieces and knows what they are buying understand there are many other superior choices.
Though rolex is so widely known as a "luxury jewlery" item that the general population thinks they are the end all be all of timepieces.

So it usually boils down to moderately poor clientele looking to achieve some sort of status by owning a rolex. PAB barely falls into this category. I would put him in the "attempting to look high class and make up for a miserable life with material goods". Surely he will look cool to his burger flipping friends and used car salesmen business associates, but quite the pompous fool to anyone of true monetary/social stature.

Just remember, a watch like that looks silly when you're sporting it with tight blue jeans and a cowboy hat while hawking repoed cars and offering "instant credit".

This bezel pic:
http://pics.apartment808.com/users/dukeofurl/IMG_7396.JPG
looks way off - on my (real) Submariner the crown comes to the edge a the top and almost all the way to the bottom, with just enough room for the three dots. Plus, the cuts in the bezel are pretty dull and unevenly spaced, on mine they are evenly spaced and sharp.

Hate to say it but I think you got taken.

EDIT - I am pretty rough on watches, so far the Sub has taken everything I've thrown at it with nothing more than a slight nick on the case and scratch on the black part of the bezel.

Stop it! You're bringing too much personal experience and reason into a PAB thread.

So Rolex is kind of like the BMW of watches?

I couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a watch. I just buy a cheap $20.00 plastic thing that's waterproof, wear it for a few years until the band breaks or the battery dies, then I replace it. If I spent money on a Rolex, I would probably lose it in a day or two. :p

Overall I would agree 100% with sampson, though Steve I would liken the brand to modern mercedes, where you pay more for the name than you do much else...at least with BMW they focus somewhat on performance and profess to care about their enthusaist driver, also while pricy they are somewhat more in line with the competition and also offer service included with a purchase...

Mercedes are on average more expensive than their competition, their options are through the roof, they offer no service, and their reliability kinda blows...but people still flock to them for the name...while Rolex watches on average are pretty reliable as far as mechanicals are concerned, their build quality and finish work is pretty sub par when compared to others that cost the same, and even those which cost considerably less...but because the ignorant think they are the best watch on the planet they sell like hot cakes and they jack prices every other year by at least five percent if not more...last year it was fourteen percent....

I also consider Bose on the same level as Rolex in terms of value for the dollar and also public perception.

Ugh, although I think it's kind of lame to show off what you think to be a Rolex you paid thousands for, it'd suck even more if PAB got took.

You gotta always get a reciept, if you're dealing with authentic high dollar merchandise you should always have it's credentials and a reciept man, common sense.

Bring it back and get a Breitling!

Those watches are just mechanical time-peice sex.

Good luck PAB, I think you're kind of a d!ck, but I'm not sure you deserved to have been scammed for so much money.

I can see that. Actually, Mercedes would have been first on my list of comparisons but for some reading I did on BMW's recently.

Well of course, the submariner is a triplock. This is a GMT.

i mean if its real and all... even preowned... there should be a coa or official warranty card...

why not take a picture of that, instead of claiming the internals are real...

I didnt get papers with it, If you want papers its gonna cost you. Most of the time papers and the box get stuck away somewhere and then they get lost.

Its like saying "I just bought an 89 mustang and to be sure its a real mustang I want the official COA and warranty card"

You dont need papers to know if internals are the real deal, you can tell just by looking at it.

Of course, you realize - even if I had paperwork and did post pics, someone would ask to see the serial number on the paperwork and the case, in which case I'd have to pull the band off to show it - and then they'd still call shens

most of the time, thats a pretty bold statement...

i know i kept the papers for my watch... and know my buddy kept the paper for his watches...

i guess as long as your happy thats all that matters... it doesnt matter if its real or fake... but i would be sure as hell would not pay a couple grand on the watch and my only answer for its real is that... look @ the internals... i would definitly want papers, etc...

Damn you PAB here is another bad Rolex joke - Die thread die
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lawyer opened the door of his BMW, when suddenly a car came along and hit the door, ripping it off completely. When the police arrived at the scene, the lawyer was complaining bitterly about the damage to his precious BMW. "Officer, look what they've done to my Beeeemer!!!", he whined.

"You lawyers are so materialistic, you make me sick!!!" retorted the officer, "You're so worried about your stupid BMW, that you didn't even notice that your left arm was ripped off!!!"

"Oh my gaaad....", replied the lawyer, finally noticing the bloody left shoulder where his arm once was, "Where's my Rolex???!!!!!"

If you realize you're going to lose either way (which you probably knew well before posting this crap) then why not leave? There appears to be no further reason to remain at ATOT if it's a lose/lose situation for you.......

I will kill this trhead with bad jokes, nothing better to do until football starts
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.

Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"

"HELLLOOOOOOO..." answered the blond. "They're watch dogs!"

I don't know what "it's a fool's mate" means, but I do know what "attention whore" means. To the extent you're not treated well here, it's a direct result of your own behavior, so cry me a river.

Honestly I don't know if your new watch is real, but I do know that you appear to be a complete jackass.
