stop spewing old information. That was true for older plasmas, but it's not the case for newer models.

Agreed. JollyRoger should stick to pirating and leave things he knows nothing about to the rest of us.

how you do that? detials please.

The initial story I got from the seller was that it needs the Y drive board (the thing that powers the horizontal electrodes). The guy gota $920 estimate to repair it.

Anyway when I go the tv home, I went online and bought a pdf of the oem service manual to get more info on the led codes - the tv would turn on, shut off in a second and blink the LED 3x till you turned it off.

Well as it turned out, 3 led pulses was a "temp over treshold / shutdown" code (ambient temperature inside over 77deg celsius or something like that). Well that didn't really add up, because even my toasted can't heat up that quick. So I popped the thing open to check the 3 temp sensor boards inside, thinking one or more was fried. Instead of that, I found one with a disconnected harness... plugged it back in and viola :)

edit:
I wonder, though, if the plasma repair place was after the guys money....or just completly clueless.

awesome ! :)

That is eerie.... I would understand if they both had a common feedback like somethingl ess than 10... but both with 451? Thats just strange!

Anyway nice job OP... Certainly deserved of a bragging thread in OT. Hell, I would have called my local news outlet LOL!!! Enjoy the TV.

Since we're talking about plasmas here, does anyone know how much a replacement panel would cost? This thread made me search eBay and there are plenty of working plasmas with broken panels for as little as $100.

We think alike. I did the same search. My buddy owns a TV & Appliance store. I am going to ask him what they do with broken/dropped TV's and see if he knows a cheap way to get them replaced.

Ii would assume that some of these people buy them off ebay with credit cards that have some kind of "protection" on them and then claim that it was broken in their own possession and get the money from their CC insurance. Of course that would be illegal, and I would never be involvwed in anything like that.. Not me, never.. ;)

Quick google search shows that it isnt worth fixing a broken screen. Scroll down for up to date posts, it starts in 2004 and the prices back then were obviously way higher.

Not getting anywhere, just searched for about 10 models that I found with broken panels on eBay and they don't sell the panel itself for any of them. Managed to find the glass for $300, but that's the most expensive item the search listed.
