"cheating"

Every university that's worth half a sh!t takes stuff like this very seriously. Academic dishonesty reflects very poorly on the individual department and the university as a whole. I'd contact the department chair (anonymously if you'd rather) and let him/her know that they have a problem. I guarantee that they'll be interested. It amazes me that some people still have the "high school", it-doesn't-matter mentality once they get to college.

that's sort of a broad statement, and doesn't make sense.

It's always about results. Usually hard work is needed to get the best though.

The other day in my english class we were taking our weekly vocabulary test, which is always very easy. I finished right away, turned it in, then went to ask my teacher a question regarding another assignment. I was next to the wall at the front of the room, so all she could see is me and the wall. Suddenly in the middle of her sentence she turns around and slowly starts walking toward the left side of the classroom. I'm thinking, "WTH is she doing, she just ditched me mid-sentence!" She reaches the left side of the classroom and calmly says, "Give it to me." the girl sitting there hands her a sheet of paper that had been on her lap, it was a cheet sheet! My teacher made sure to say it just loud enough for the entire class to hear it.

It is always hillarious when a cheater is caught.

Not really. If you can talk well, network well, and market yourself well, you can be a complete idiot and get into a high paying position. It's all about APPARANT results.

A few years back some high level woman was discovered to have faked her college degree, yet was doing just fine at her 6-figure job for years. That's just more proof that education, in the corporate world, is grossly overrated.

My rules on anything in the gray area are, I'm okay with it until it starts to affect me or my friends.

Case in point: Cheater cheats on his own, gets a good grade in a class, passes. That's fine, I'm not going to let them cheat off of me though.

I'm forced to do a group project with this person, who doesn't know the material. First thing I'm going to do is have them removed from my group. If they're not, then the beans get spilled.

The fact that someone is devalueing a degree for a given school may also constitute affecting me, but its more of a long run thing. If it's high school, then whatever. If it's college, I would turn them in.

My 2¢

Sadly, the real world doesn't always work like this.

dude, cheating in school is so not important. Honestly, every class before college you should not care less. Cheat up and down all day, it doesn't matter. I promise it won't have any lasting effect on your life, probably not even your month.

Even in college I condone cheating. It's impossible to cheat on everything, so one that cheats on most things yet fails his final or whatever, will burn himself in the long run. If he knows enough to pass, and enough to cheat well, then more power to him.

Honestly, it won't have any lasting impact on you. Get over it. Don't turn him in. I can guarentee you one day you'll succomb to some sort of temptation and be caught, and you won't want that person turning you in. Karma will come back around. Do YOUR best and don't bother with others.

too bad many college courses (and some HS ones) are graded on a curve, meaning if the cheater does "better" than you, your grade drops.

^ This guy is a cheater. 😉

If you don't cheat in school at least somewhat, you're either an idiot or are too obsessed with education.

It' NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! I swear one grade, hell 20 grades, in the scheme of your life will NOT make a difference. Make things a little easier on yourself now, 'cause they get tough once you hit the working world.

Ratters are douchebags. Everyone does things they shouldn't; people wouldn't want to be ratted out in their own situations and should treat others accordingly.

Don't let it bother you man, if you suck and can't make good grades on your own, either give up or start cheating, or work harder.
People like you were the kind that I quietly smiled about when I caught cheating and gave a nice zero for a grade.

I never had to cheat, but I helped some friends cheat a few times and I never got insulted or angry at people who cheat to get by.

Exactly. If his cheating lowers your grade, then turn him in. If it has no effect, then forget about it.

At some point you have to realize that education is much more than a grade. If people are cheating to pass courses, they are really cheating themselves out of education. I feel more sorry for these people than angry.

People like you are douchebags. If I had you in one of my classes, you would be gone in a week. Your entire attitude is "why should I work hard when I can just steal someone else's work after they work hard," which is absolutely deplorable. If someone is grabbing the bumper of my car while riding a skateboard just to mooch a ride without contributing, I'll slam on my brakes. Why should someone else benefit from my hard work when they refuse to contribute?

An education shows your employer mainly you can complete a long task. More and more though with College becoming just Grades 13-17, it gets harder to stand out.

Some companies require degrees and advanced degrees for certain positions. For them it both tells the client they have highly educated people and also makes selecting candidates easier. Many just mass spam their resumes everywhere.

Now...college is not about teaching you how do you your job. That is the biggest misconception...even a doctor after their 4 years of med school is still clueless until they start interning and practicing the theories they have learned on live patients.

Alot of time you are learning what not to do, rather than what you should do.

If I had cheated in university, I'd have gotten As instead of my Bs. But at least I know my sh!t.

This kid is seriously a douche. I am in the same class, and honestly is the biggest waste of space I have ever seen. I can understand with review questions or something, like "hey i already know this, its just busy work for me" then yeah grab some answers....but this kid knows NOTHING. He gets to class late everyday, then immediately fires up a game. Teacher asks him a question and he literally sits there.."Uhhhhh, give me a second...." and then stares at his computer not saying anything until the teacher gives up and moves on to someone else who answers right away. It is more annoying than anything.

In the same exact vien, why should I see you as "so almighty" that you aren't willing to help a fellow out. Your mentality of "me first, screw everyone else" is why this country is so f/ed up as it is.

Do your own thing. He's life will catch up and cheat him eventually. Don't worry.

We had a manager here at work that cheated on his MCSE tests to get certified. Then he got pwned by our boss because he didn't know anything about setting up DNS or IP addressing when we needed him to do some deployments. Heheh...that was funny to watch him squirm 🙂
