Perhaps you should report this to somebody? Or would that just make everything worse?

Cheating is so bad in my college. You see kids giving each other old papers and answers to exams. and that's how all these kids pass. A lot of my friends know people that can hook them up with whatever they need. It's so bad right now that the teachers just give you older exams so that kids don't teach as much, and then they review from those exams.
The worst thing is that, when i was in community college last year, it never happened. I'm sure people used to cheat, but it wasn't this bad. All the people that i used to know used to study to pass. And to think that people make fun of community college, when in turn i've seen people working harder there.

I'm not into cheating cause I used to do it back when i was younger and it never did me any good.

Yeah cheating sux....last night at my math final it was myself and some other girl still finishing it up. The prof left the room for a bit and she asked me what I got on a certain question. I hate to be an ass but I wasn't going to jeopardize my grade because of her....

Now if she was hot that would have been a different story... ;) (just kiddin)

even if they do end up passing classes through cheating, it will come back to bite them in the ass later in life.
You can't cheat your way through a workday out in the real world. A client is gonna want their stuff done, and there will be no answers to copy, no cheat sheet to look at, and no buddies to hook them up. They'll get theirs in the end. Don't worry :)

Using old exams is not cheating. Now looking at your notebook when the teacher is not looking is cheating.

cheating always happens in college........Sometimes I wonder how come the professor does not catch people cheating when she sees them.

Well, its true that it will bite them in the @ss in the future because they dont know jack about the stuff they cheated...for instance programming...hehe

Some professors are too worried about a lawsuit if the student wasn't cheating (or was cheating but clever enough to hide it) and it's put on their academic records. As a professor or TA, you have to prove beyond doubt that cheating did occur. It's also pretty lame when a student is failed after turning in a paper plagiarized off of the internet, and rich mommy and daddy come along and sue the prof -- this happened at my school at the end of my junior year.

Cheating is the American educational institution's way of maintaining the status quo, to give the image that everyone who goes to the school can do the work. It happens, too bad it happens, and even exposing cheaters doesn't mean any action will follow.

I've caught cheaters, but I strive to create assignments that are hard to cheat on, too. ===

My University high light was when the prof in my data structures couldn't keep it to himself that he had to expel half a dozen students! The all had the exact same copy of the code and all of them had the same name written on the assignment! The only things they changed in the assignment were their student numbers! I wish more cheaters would get caught though... You can really tell people cheat by the following statistics :

Assignment avg : class : 90% me : 75% (I always did my assignments by myself)
Midterms avg : class : 50% me : 75%

The cheaters always gets slaughtered on the exams :)

I can imagine not getting a job because some guy with a better gpa beat me to it.

First day of his new job:
coworker: "So, how much Java experience do you have?"
him: "Yep, I could use a cup of coffee too."

grr.

You know what, in my 4 years in University, i've never seen anybody cheat. Maybe i'm too busy on my own stuff to worry about what others were doing... or maybe there's just less cheating going on in my courses (psych).

i cheat all the time, but only in little bullsh!t classes.. i.e. Discrete Mathematics. most of it is garbage that you will inevitably forget in a couple months. just dont concern yourself about people cheating.. you're studying because you want to learn it for yourself and whether others learn it or not shouldnt be an issue..

Cheating defeats the purpose of an education. Cheating has definate consequences in the long run. Students in college should know better than to waste time and hard-earned money (usually someone else's).

thats only if you cheat through college, but if you cheat in one or two classes i think its fine. theres a certain line that one must cross for cheating to be a bad thing.

mmm...ok...let's see you cheat you get a 95% on the test...someone who actually does the material gets a 70%...the normal curve without you cheating would be at the highest grade which would hypothetically be 85%....the 70% guy now gets a C instead of a B. Explain to me how it's not an offense? You disgust me Gunrush. Pure and simple...you, GUNRUSH, DISGUST me. :|
