Cheapest "luxury" watch

I know this sounds pretentious and silly but I work at a job where I'm constantly meeting very well off clients. 3 seperate times I've been mocked (gently) for the type of watch that I wear. It's so silly but, since me being "impressive" to a client is important, I think I need to invest in an entry level "luxury" watch. You know, the BMW 3 series of watches... The infinity g35 of watches - a good brand but their most affordable point of entry.

These are watches I've worn that have gotten mocked - seiko, citizen, and casio ( a nice looking casio - http://216.25.78.123/pics/casio/ef121l7av.jpg ). It's really silly but I'm getting tired of this B.S. and am just conforming to make my life easier. One person said "you're in this field but wear a watch that cost 75 cents to make?" and another person jibed "remind me to buy you a watch for christmas." It's so trivial that it angers me, but as is my job.

what watch are you wearing that looks so obviously chincy?

a watch just has to be tasteful and not call attention to itself.

So you just need to charge your clients enough to have the ones making the comments buy it for you...... I assume your job is not to directly spend their money on yourself but be wise in its investment/usage.

dude you live in NYC. u cant get a knockoff from chinatown? if looks are all that matters to you, a knockoff of a omega or rolex will do

I ***AGREE*** with your cynicism. I have an entry level job and don't make enough to wear designer clothes and live the "high" life. I hate how snooty my clients are - I once was caught in a rain storm and bought an umbrella from a street vendor. I went into a client's office and her secretary offered to take my belongings - she grabbed my umbrella *with her pinky* as if it was infected with a flesh eating bacteria and made a face while saying "Oh my, did you get this off of the street?"

It's awful to deal with but I have to.. Sigh..

Wow that's incredibly superficial of them. I love my Citizen Eco-drive watch and I've had many people compliment me on it and then they're like wow it's solarpowered etc.

What do you work with? Your clients seem like a nice bunch of A-holes and cucumber sandwich eating snobs.

You won't believe what they sometimes do. A client once asked what kind of watch my boss was wearing once. The make went in one ear and out the other for me (I simply don't care about watches) but the price tag stood out - $15,000 for the BAND, $5,000 for the watch. $20,000 on his freakin' wrist. They actually asked for a closer look, flipped it over and quickly made sure it was real.

It's so obnoxious, so trivial, and so arrogant.. I hate it...

Welcome to the real world.

People are judged on their appearance every moment of their lives. Is that just? No. It happens. Deal with it.

It sounds as if your clients are snobs and lack class. Further proof you can't buy class. However, you're a peon and it isn't your job to criticize their attitude; it's to make them comfortable. The fact that they're commenting on your watch leads me to believe that they've accepted you and are egging you on to make changes and be "more like them."

Listen to me, we live in a superficial world. A world where attractive, well-dressed, smooth-talking people get all the breaks. It sucks, I know, but that's life. Do yourself a favour and suck up your ego (ignore the holier-than-thou BS you'll get from the people on this forum) and invest in some good-quality clothing. Remember: quality over quantity. Don't sacrifice buying a top-quality garment over buying multiples of an item.

People notice your watch, shoes, tie, nails, and teeth. Want to get ahead? Do something about it.

Need specific advice? PM me. I'm willing to help.

Sounds like you need to spend $5000 to get rid of their comments.

"Mall" Luxury watches are considered "cheapie" entries. These include: Movado, Bvlgari, Tag Heuer, Wittnauer, Seiko, Omega, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, and a few others.

Cheapire for "luxry" watches are pretty much any watch ranging from $200 to just around $1000. Around $1500 you into "mid-level" watches to around $4000. After that you are in the upper-crust to the most extravgent that can cost upward of 50K or more. Many of the upper-crust watch makers have lower level lines for people, like Breitling that makes watches from $1000 on up to $60,000.Some you'd be lucky to find anything under $10,000 like Frank Meuller.

Now, if you are looking for something "impressive" looking for cheap for with a seiko. You can get a nice looking one for under $100 that can impress based on looks, if not materials and craftmanship. Not saying seikos are bad watches, they are great, BUT there are some impressive craftmenship in some of the more expensive watches that you have to be an aficiendo to understand.

My suggestion? go to overstock, and look through their watches. They got some nice name mall brands there and some off names too for usually cheaper then mall prices

How can you place Tag Heuer and Seiko in the same class as Omega? Omega is more along the lines of Breitling.

I have an Omega chronograph, the Speedmaster. It's the only watch thats been to the moon. None of those other watch makers you grouped it with produce watches as high quality as Omega.

what is affordable to you?

if i was getting a 'luxury' watch, i'd probably get a bell & ross.

and jesus christ you work with some rude people.

Umm because I do like most aficiendos. I'm wearing my day-to-day watch on my wrist right now. It's a $4200 watch. Omega makes great watches, but the quality isn't really all that much better then tags or seikos best. In fact, the prices are that much different either. Just because Omega doesn't make "cheaper" watches doesn't make them better watches either. Look at Rolex. That's regarded as a "okay" luxury watch by collectors. Nothing stands out on Rolexs but many people who aren't into watches think Rolex's are the best there is. They aren't. They are made on an assembly line with a manufactered processed and then price controlled similar to what DeBeers does with diamonds in marketing and price adjusting. There are better made watches, especially when you compare mechanical watches, then a rolex or omega. When it comes to digital watches, seiko is also VERY hard to beat in terms of quality. If you are a brand-name lover and believe the hype, so be it. I'm just pointing it out as it is.

Omega's watches are overall all most expensive them many of seikos or tags, but that doesn't make them better watches.

Now, for the OP, if you have a price range you are looking to spend on a new watch, I might be able to help you find something.
