Midnight Rambler,

Your warranty is *not* affected by the Superchip. It's the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that protects your warranty when using aftermarket parts, just so you know. It basically says that prior to the denial of a warranty claim, the automaker must first prove that the aftermarket part in question was the sole causitive factor in a related parts' failure. It also says that no manufacturer can condition their warranty upon using only their brand-name parts, *UNLESS* the manufacturer provides those parts FREE OF CHARGE. Pretty neat, eh? Every once in awhile the lawmakers get one right.

Here is where I just ordered mine for my '99 Ford F-150
Read about them on the message boards at F-150 Online

i agree that people shouldn't make their cars look silly, but as for the superchip i got. i've noticed a huge difference in power, and i've always used premium fuel, so there is no difference in price for me :D I love my superchip.

depends on how well tuned the motor is to begin with, and the other changes you've made to the motor that will affect a car.

for instance.

stock 5.0 mustang , chip might give you 1-2hp of 225hp at peak 5500rpm.
turbo eclipse, chip will allow raising of boost 2x stock, giving 100-200hp. (if you're motor doesn't barf).
older BMW's (my 750il) gets 45 peak hp, and 30peak ft/lbs of torque. It drinks 14 miles per gallon from the 5.0 V12, so how can i afford to put 92 octane in stead of the normal 87.

If you've got a worked motor, with better breathing, or a power-adder, then new fuels curves (superchip) are a must. gains of 50hp with a 9lb blower, ported polished intake, k&n, worked heads, and new exhaust , are not uncommon.

a honda civic, hehe, might get 1-5 hp, which is nothing.

since any car with less than say 200 hp, and 200 ft/lb of torque is a wussy car to begin with.

Added power = added stress, and less duration of motor parts. Also some chips will (regardless of what they say) fail your emissions. If you bring your car in for warranty work, you BEST remove the chip first.

The chip should be last among the things to spend money on when making your car faster. they don't do much at all. A cold air intake, underdrive pullies, short throw shifter, maybe even a new exhaust cat-back are MUCH BETTER examples of how to get more performance out of your car , for the same money.

Seriously, don't buy a chip and a TYPE-R sticker, you'll asking to get spanked by somebody. Work your way up with some real mods, and learn to drive your car faster.

Several magazines have done tests on automobile chips and all they could prove was you spent your hard earned money. Sometimes they got lucky and there was an increase in performance and other times performance stayed the same or decreased. Even dyno testing was inconclusive.

It seems to be a toss up.

That only works when the aftermarket part is a direct replacement (read, same specs, same function) for the OEM's component.

Roadrunner is on the right track. A cold air intake along with a k&n filter and a cat back exhaust will get much better and more noticable gains.

i drive a vw gti vr6 and the chip that i got back in 95 made quite the difference. i got much improved response and it took off the top speed limit of 130mph. The best part was that above 5500rpm through red line my car made much more power. i have also installed a ram air k&n system and a stainless steel cat back system, and this year at road america had no problems leaving Ferrari 308's and 328's behind me. :)
I autocross my car during the summer and this along with all of the other mods for handling made quite a difference in my lap times. my only problem is now after 5 hard years, my car now needs a new clutch and dif.
i dont believe in all the "look at me mods" or "pull me over mods" people make to their cars.
now only if they made sticky tires that lasted more than 1 summer. :(
also if you drive fast, invest in a driving school or race school.
just my 2cents

i think it was on that Rice Boy page they showed the Lamborghini Diablo getting beaten at autocross by Dodge Neons b/c the Lambo owner didnt knwo how to drive his car..

....sure being cautious is one thing but if your payign anything over, say, $50k for a car you REALLY should learn how to drive the damn thing correctly...

Heartily agree about the driving school suggestions. Too damn many people on the roads who think their last name is Andretti ...

Personally, I'd recommend any of the Skip Barber schools (both driving and racing instruction available), Bob Bondurant schools, and the Mid-Ohio school isn't bad, depending on who the instructor would be. You might also check at the SCCA web site for their list of approved/accredited schools.

I left numerous e-mails and even called their number. No message or response from these people. Turns out I hear that they lost their license to sell Superchips. No wonder they were so cheap. I would have to fill up with Premium gas anyways with this chip and with the current price of gas, it'll be quite expensive. Forget it. I'll stick an AMD Athlon chip in my dash and see what that does :)

I have the K&N FIPK and it rocks! Talk about a power/torque increase. I was skeptical but I am now a believer. The results were dramatic.

I remember a while ago JC Whitney used to have ADS superchips for about $58 (this was for like 81-95 GM cars though) summit racing has great prices too....

and for driving school, if youre really cheap, many Malibu Gran Prix's have a Bob Bondurant Driving school class that includes 10 laps, personal instruction, and a fake "diploma" for $19.95...the basic skills such as going through a corner can really help novice drivers
