For the people who care about the 3D Mark, I suggest the Compaq 2800 model. Its score is 4500,
a lot better than ZE4000 and 900Z. It's also a lot more expensive.

One more thing.

Karnold: When you did your 3dmark benchmark did you set your power scheme back to always on? That should let you know the true potential of your notebook.

Peace out

The power setting was portable/laptop when I did the test.

Again, I used 3D Mark 2001, not 3D Mark 2001 SE. I don't know the difference between these two.

One more thing. I remember whe I fooled around in OfficeDepot, I can change the AGP from 2X to 4X.
But now it's set to 2X and I can't change it to 4X. I think the score would be higer if I can change the
AGP to 4X. Anybody knows know to do it?

The score difference with 32 and 64 is not much, I think it's because my total memory size is too small.
I'll let you know after I got one 512MB to make a total of 768MB of memory size.

I've run ZE4000 for 3.5 hours, and its surface is still very very cool :D

But the fan keeps runing very often. I hope I can manipulate the usage

frequency of the fan.

OK. Now I know SE means second edition. So that's the same with the one I used.
Tot. What is your CPU and memory size? That would make a difference, too.

I just ran the 3D Mark test using the Batter power.

The score is 1486 with 32MB video memory. The performance is almost the same with the score using the AC power.

Besides, when I use the battery instead of the AC power, the fan stopped running. Cool !!!!!

I think that's because the CPU is cooler at lower clock rate when the batter is used as the

power source.

OK! enough test today.

1507 is very impressive. I have no doubt about the performance of AMD.
What I don't like about 900z is its temperature and the lack of 1394 and Infrared in this mode.

That's true. I like the speaker of 900z, too.

ZE4000 has IR, so you can use your cell phone to go online and check AT anywhere in the world. Maybe, you need to pay a little for that, but really worth it. Anyone tried this yet?

ZE4000 alos has two batteries, 6 hours maybe?

It just has a little bit better 3d than 900Z. But that's enough, and right choice.

Like the problem of ZE4101, the HD of ZE4000 also has click sounds once in a while.

The method of changing the sound setting from "Windows default" to "no sound" doesn't work.

Currently I use battery power only, so I don't know if the click sounds problem is worse or better when

AC power is used instead.

I got it without shipping fee because I bought it in store, but for the people who placed the order
last week and paid the $75 shipping fee should be able to get the $75 back from the Staples. That's
for sure.

is the 1.6 P4 Celeron too lame? I think it should be slower than a P3 1G mobile CPU, right? Maybe even slower than P3 Celeron 1G?

Is getting P4 M 1.7G a better choice overall?

Well, just bit the bullet and bought one of these babies... For all those humming and hawwing about Compaq vs HP... If you are left handed the choice is clear.... Compaq's keyboards only have the contol key on the left side only so you cant use the touch pad with your left hand and select with the control key. You may think this is a small thing but it drove me nuts. I used the compaq for about 2 weeks and sent it back... IMO it was too hot as well.

My two cents.

I have no idea what Karnold is talking about.
I have the ze4101 and I set the sound scheme to "no sound" and it worked like a charm.

It depends on the selection of your display's size. If it's 15" SXGA, the maximum is 1400x1050
If it's 15" XGA, the maximum is 1280x1024.

(Delurking)

This is a great deal, I ordered last week. How should I go about getting shipping refunded? Will they do it if I just call and ask?

Does it actually have bluetooth wireless? I saw some mention of it as optional in the manual, but never saw mention of it on the (fairly poor) staples web site. HP shopping was nearly useless when I called them last time, so I certainly don't beleive a thing they say.

Poppagene: Do you knwo which one is the right UPC bar code to send to HP? There are so many bar codes
and I'm confused. By they way, I tried to make partitions by partition magic, but it shows the partition is not
resizable, so till now I still have only one partition. Have you successfully made the partitions?
