Charter internet price shenanigans

I'm going to assume that the $30 rate is for new subscribers only.

Also, I'm surprised you remember a conversation with a customer service rep from 3 years ago.

New user discounts are always available to long-term customers as well... the CSR was just full of crap. Broadband is the only industry that gets away with increasing prices for the same product rather than increasing performance at the same price or offering the same performance at lower prices. Oh, but now it comes with some crappy Netflix ripoff. Goodie good. Except that I don't give a crap about movies and I've probably seen under 40 in my life.

@CPA I keep records of this stuff. Excel is an awesome life organization tool. Not like I expect it to hold up in court or anything, but it keeps me from forgetting things like conversations with CSRs three years ago. 😉

sure, I agree, but i also don't expect that they'll do it everytime.

For instance, it's time for me to re-up my electric rate. Based on my negotiations with my electrical provider in the past, I know they won't give me the new customer low rate. So, I either will need to take the next lowest rate or go elsewhere.

You all are lucky bastards. I pay $65 for 3Mb/s service and that's kind of "high end" around here.

1.5Mb/s is $40 per month
6.0Mb/s is $95 per month

6.0 is the fastest tier around here.

I'm on the phone right now with the dip shits (Charter). I got them to come down to $30 many years ago for 15mb service and bought a modem for $50. I have to call them every 6-12 months to get them to extend the pricing. Last week I got a bill for about $48 so called to get them back to $30. The lady on the phone said they no longer offer $30/month and the best they could do was like $37 so I reluctantly agreed after trying to twist her arm.

Then I see this post and go to their website and see the $29.99, now I'm really pissed since I feel like I've been lied to. I call today and get a 'merican guy on the phone and tell him I want the $29.99 rate they have on their site. He says they don't have that pricing for existing customers, just new ones. To make even better he says I'm still at $48 so apparently my phone call with the other lady was wiped from existence, dip shits I tell ya. He continues to tell me they no longer have any promotional pricing of any kind, I ask what he calls the $29.99 new customer rate, he gives me a BS answer, its promotional pricing you jackasses. I get pissy and he insists the best he can give me is $40 for 30mb service, the 15mb service actually costs more than the 30mb now which is funny since its no longer sold. After telling him how sick I am of the games Charter plays I agree to pay the $40. Now they're sending me a new modem as my current one is too old I guess for 30mb service.

I guess it could definitely be worse than $40 for 30mb service but I get sick of the damn games they play with the new customer pricing meanwhile they give jack shit for incentives for the poor saps paying their bills every month on time for years in a row. I go through the same shit with DirectTV every year as I refuse to pay like 50% more for the same crap the give the newbies for cheap. Not to mention you have to almost threaten their life to get them to upgrade your equipment free of charge even though they give that for free as well to the newbs.

Wow you're cheaper than the OP... I remember paying $70 a month for 1.5 mb cable when I was 16 and making $7.10 an hour. Not really worried about an extra $7 per month lmao

IMO there's a difference between being cheap and just getting screwed out of money. I'm sure they'd love to charge me $68 like they're trying to do the OP but that's $456 a year more than I was paying and $336 more than I am now. Even $7 a month gets close to a Benjamin a year I can spend on something else.

im at $30 for 16mb on charter. im fine with it, as i can watch netflix on a couple tv's (me and roomate).

its a 1 year offer though, and if they raise my rates i will surely do what i can to get that price back. if not, i will probably just upgrade my tmobile 4g plan to unlimited for $55 and tether till my shenanigans are terminated 😀

Get a quote from a different ISP and then go tell them you are switching if they dont match the price. If they dont match just switch. That is all the advice I can give you. All of these service providers are liars and theives.

I dropped my Direct TV. I just watch shows on the Internet.
