And do you know who will buy them?

That's right, Comcast.

A little while ago Comcast agreed not to by up any more cable companies because they were moving into the "monoply" area. I can't remember if it was after they bought a large part of Adelphia or after that when they acquired another cable company and in order to get Federal approval they made that agreement.

LOL @ implying caps caused bankruptcy. Caps don't affect 99% of users. If anything, they saved money.

I dount the Caps caused this, but caps will cause people to leave one company for another. That and most placves i see that they are doing caps have little to no competition. Someone dumb enough to try Caps around here and people would just switch to FIOS.

If 1% of users needing to be being capped hurt them enough, they had bigger problems that overuse of bandwidth by 55,000 "bandwidth hogs".

shit, at this point, all I want is internet that doesn't randomly disconnect every 30-60 mins 🙁

Their service in Tennessee is the same way. I got kicked out of more L4D games than I can count. Now that I have DSL I have been effectively keeping the zombie hordes in check.

Yeah I can't even play a full round of 2142 without getting dropped from the server nowadays.

Good. They have basically a monopoly where I live and I'd love to see some other companies get all up in this piece.

The problem is that now that they are going to be bankrupt the service could suffer until someone bails them out. Charter may own the local lines, but the bandwidth they purchase from people like level3 are not going to like being told , we will pay you when we can. Which could mean they have to go with cheaper providers or even close down some areas . Also means they will probably have to lay off support people. Overall the service will probably get worse before it gets better.

Nobody said it was the financial reason, but I believe in Karma.

Are they actually losing a significant portion of their customer base to other providers? If a bunch of folks actually discontinued their cable/internet service I could understand, but most people will stick with these kinds of providers for a significant portion of time it seems. With such a stable source of revenue, why couldn't they predict that they wouldn't be able to make their interest payment deadline?

I think this is why:

Charter has been criticized for poor customer support and frequent billing consistency issues, causing the Better Business Bureau to post a warning to consumers about the company:

The Better Business Bureau has received numerous complaints regarding this cable, digital TV, and high speed internet access provider. Complainants primarily allege that the firm had improper billing practices, referred customer bills to collection agencies in error, provided poor customer service, used misleading advertising, provided defective internet or cable performance, used improper sales tactics or misrepresented the actual costs of installation and service, failed to properly install or maintain service, damaged customers' property, and failed to honor service appointments.

PCWorld also ranked Charter's cable Internet service as worst among 14 major Internet service providers. Charter High-Speed is the second-worst-rated cable ISP on dslreports.com and Consumer Reports indicated in their February 2008 issue that Charter's television/Internet/telephone bundle collectively is the worst of all major national carriers.

That's right, Comcast.

And, they'll use the money the government gives them to expand into rural areas. Wisconsin counts as rural, right?
