The Weber kettle is more than "good enough". I've got 2 of them myself.

Weber makes a great grill. The controls on the bottom for sweeping the ash and airflow are pretty good as well.

The Webers are great. You won't get the extreme heat of those ceramic eggs, but they're exactly what most people need.

If you don't have one, get / make a chimney briquette starter. An easy and quick way to get the charcol going.

Get a Big Green Egg. For most part a large egg is enough but if you are going to have parties with more than 8 people all summer long then get the XL.

I was just looking at this today, I saw that they have a grate with the hole in the middle for the 22.5 grill to convert it into a "Gourmet BBQ System" to do stir fry with the wok outside. Any major diff between the silver and gold version, is the gold version worth $50 more?

Gold has the ash catcher and hinged grate. Maybe some other minor bits, don't remember, but those two are the main differences.

The hinged grate is available to purchase (about $20-$30 i think), not sure about the ash catcher, but i would guess so. I don't see a need for the ash catcher for myself since my patio is fenced in, i don't have to worry about wind blowing the ash around.

I love the smell of charcoal grills in the summer! Your best hot dogs come off a charcoal grill!

I have a propane and electric grill. Been using the electric grill more. It cooks great and won't burn! Makes Italians real well!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll start out with the Gold Weber Charcoal grill.

I actually owned a Weber Performer (!) for some time, but I couldn't seem to get the drift of maintaining temperature very well. My dad's coming to shishkabob some stuff, so he'll show me.

I think I'd be better off with an electric/gas grill.

Point taken on the climate change thing, I'm a once in a while kind of guy (once a month probably). I love the smell of charcoal, too. I think it's unbeatable. I'm sure another type of grill will get the job done, but I need that flavor. I'm also a perfectionist so I need it to be cooked perfectly as I expect, but I think cooking can sometimes be more of an art?

I really like Mongrel's pool and patio, awesome!

Here is what I've done so far in the backyard, missing furniture, a grill, and a party full of women.

Weber kettles are great. I have 3. 22.5, 18.5 and smokey joe (all cheapest versions mostly for the fact that they are more portable, I like it that way).

I can't/couldn't justify getting more expensive versions as the lower bucket seems worthless to me and side table as well. Both also go against portability.

I can take the legs off the pack all 3 grills to go (which we do a lot).

I don't use my gas grill at all.....

Weber performer platinum for me. Can't stand not having a table. And the gas start is awesome (especially when used WITH a chimney starter).

ROFL!

Temperatures rise = Global Warming
Temperatures lower = Global Warming
Climate gets wet = Global Warming
Climate gets dry = Global Warming
More hurricanes = Global Warming
Fewer hurricanes = Global Warming
Milder winters = Global Warming
Harsher winters = Global Warming
Hotter summers = Global Warming
Cooler summers = Global Warming
Car breaks down = Global Warming
Cat gets pregnant = Global Warming
...and on and on.

Global Warming (previously known as Global Cooling and occasionally known as Climate Change, Extreme Weather, and other euphemisms) is a religion. And like a religion, it's full of arbitrary, contradictory, self-affirming, shifting, and incoherent claims asserted as unassailable truth (immediately dropped the moment another becomes more advantageous) that literally anything can be true, for any reason, from any person, at any time.

Every time I fire up the fireplace I'll be thinking of the poor polar bears and how the Artic should have melted already according to Al Gore. Oh! FYI, it's snowing today in Chicago, normal is like 70F! But no, it's not called "global warming" anymore it's "climate change." Back in Aug of 2013 I read the Farmers Almanac predicted a snowy year. Boy were they right. The Farmers Almanac! Who da thunk!
