Changing MAC address or spoofing MAC address on 802.11b?

Anyone know which wifi 802.11b cards allow the user to change MAC addresses? My Netgear 802.11b cards can't, but my regular Netgear FA311 has an option for it. I'm using Win2000 and WinXP. Or anyone know of any utilities that allow a user to spoof a MAC address?

I'm trying an experiment to see if my network is secure and need something to mess with MAC addresses. thanks in advance!

A lot of times it depends on the drivers. Im not aware of any that let you though. Look into better cards, they may include those options.

I have done this with my Apple Airport card under Mac OS 9, but so far I have found nothing that supports OS X. I didn't try this with my Netgear MA401 802.11b. (I can't now anyway since I no longer have the card.) I know there is no option for it in the drivers, but then again there isn't one for the Apple Airport card either. I just downloaded a hack from somewhere. Versiontracker.com maybe.

Interestingly the reason I did this was for "free" internet access while I drank my coffee at the local coffee shop. Shhhhh.... 😉 Actually, the owner said if I could figure out a way to access their network I wouldn't have to pay for internet access. It turns out that all that was done on the network was to exclude unknown MAC addresses. So I just rented one of his rental 802.11b cards, copied the MAC address, and voila! instant access. So for the few times I've gone and done this I just check to see if anyone else is there with a laptop and 802.11b. If so, I won't use mine since I don't want to screw up their system. Lame security if you ask me. There isn't even WEP active.

Anyways, I don't bother doing this anymore because I'd rather just read the paper. 😛

My lucent/orinoco/avaya does, my mac address is 00:2c😀e:ad:be:ef

ohhhh to see dead beef 🙂

I did it with a registry entry
