Changing CPU/Mobo/RAM

I'm going from an AMD 3200+, A8N and 1 gig of DDR ram to a C2D 6300, P965-DS3, and 1 gig of DDR2. Anything I need to do before I drop the new stuff in?
 
besides reinstalling xp afterwards (i had to do that at least when i switched out my intel p4 2.4C, asus p4p800, and 2GB of DDR500), i didnt have to do anything else.
 
As mentioned, you will definitely need to re-install XP at least a Repair Installation if not a Full one. To make sure you do not lose important data I recommend backing up important files and data just in case you end up re-formatting just in case something goes south during the re-installation.
 
You better backup that harddrive and expect to format and reinstall windows. I just swapped out my cpu from a single core to a dual and had to reformat and reinstall windows.

Wow, something must have messed up. You should have removed and cleaned all traces of chipset drivers before hand, then installed the latest. I helped my friend go from an Athlon XP 2000+ to an A64 3000+ and all he had to do was remove all drivers (downloading all new ones for new motherboard etc before to hard drive), boot up and install the drivers. No problems whatsoever, no need to reinstall.

Hey, don't rely on his luck, though 😉. Go the safe route and at least before trying that, back everything up. Back up any data or whatever you want safe that you currently have on your windows drive/partition. And download all the drivers you need beforehand.
 
i did the same thing and just changed the hard drive controller to standard dual pci ide controller. then shut the pc down. put the new mobo, processor, memory in a new case and presto change o upgraded home pc runnig smooth as silk. i must admit i did this after much hair pulling due to the dreaded blue screen the first time i tried it before changing the controller name.

backing up is a great practice to follow but why do a reinstall if you dont need to ?
