Any suggesions in terms of taking care of it? Accessories? Hardware? Software? Do I have to you iTunes? Please feel free to comment.

The answer is easy. Are you really going to use 40gbs of music at one time? Is 20gbs of music at a single time simply not enough?

I purchased 2 iPod Mini's as a wedding gift for my best friend and his wife last Month. They absolutely love them. If you don't need the larger storage, go for a Mini.

it's not, in my opinion... I'm still on a 10 gig iPod and haven't filled all the space.

it's not that I don't have 10 gigs of music, but the more music I put on my iPod, the harder it is to find a good song when I'm just shuffling through the entire library (sifting through playlists while driving = a bad thing).

Agreed. I chose the mini because I figured 4gb is plenty of music to carry at any given time. Also the size is a nice plus. On paper, the dimensions dont seem to be much smaller then the 4G but when its in the palm of your hand, totally big difference.

20GB, I think, is already overkill, so a 40GB is even more overkill. Of course, you do get the case, remote, AND dock...but you can always snatch those off of eBay for pretty cheap.

if you like having a dock cradle, there would only be a $60 difference between 20GB and 40GB models.

20GB model + dock cradle = $300 + $40
40GB model w/ dock cradle = $400

so for $60 difference, you could probably buy a nice case or gets some better headphones

is the dock cradle worth it? i mean whats so great about it...

to an earlier post: its $270 for 20gig and $360 for the 40. Student discount.
I had an 3g for while that I borrowed and I liked it alot. So I definitely appreciate the ipod alot. I'm really electronically literate so I can use all the advanced stuff but I definitely prefer simplicity of the ipod. How much bigger/heavier is the 40 gig?

Check your current music collection size, add a 5 gig and see if you need the 40 gig version. Otherwise get ther 20g version.

Last time I went to the Apple Store (GASP!) the 40GB model was bulkier and heavier than the 20 and 30 GB models.

how much music do you have?
if you have something really close to 20 gigs get teh 40gig one because you will get more music, if you have like 8 gigs of music get the 20gig

i have 30 gigs of music and its all backed up on my 30 gig Zen Xtra

it all depends, how much mp3s do u actually have? I have a 30gb and about 24gb is used (i believe the actual space is like 28.7gb or something capacity for the ipod)

So i'm just waiting for the 60gb ipods to come before i upgrade, decide on how much music you can see filling it up and go from there.
