With only 8gb of music I doubt it... the one reason you might want to is to encode your own cds in a high bitrate.

40 over 20? no thanks.
so hard to actually use the entire 20GB with music you actually listen to... 40 is an utter waste of money IMO.

The 40 gig comes w/ a docking station. I doubt you'd use all that space, but if you have money to burn. It also ways half and ounce more and is a little bigger. I have a 20 gig and thats is fine for me.

what i like about ipods is that they can be used as external hard drives, with usb 2.0 and firewire interfaces, so if you like to backup files, 40gb

I can't imagine why 4GB wouldn't be fine, occasionally swapping out music on the player for music on a large hard drive.

All the music I have on my hard drive I listen to, and the space it takes up is about 15GB. Many others have much more extensive collections.

20GB, I think, is already overkill, so a 40GB is even more overkill. Of course, you do get the case, remote, AND dock...but you can always snatch those off of eBay for pretty cheap.
No you do not.

Personally, I use Ephpod to manage my iPod. I'm no fan of iTunes and found it to be far more trouble that it's worth. Definitely upgrade the earbuds as the stock buds aren't very good quality. Check out ipodlounge.com for reviews of accessories. I can't recommend a case because I don't know what your priorities are, but I have a black iPod BodyMask on mine which covers everything but the 4 small buttons. My earbuds are black to so I have a scratch-proof, black iPod that I can stick in my pocket. I also have a leather case w/belt clip from ExtremeMac that I use at the gym. I'm just not geeky enough to strap my iPod on my belt, though I tried it a few times, and it's a bit too bulky to pocket. I know leather is not the best for the gym, but I have it, so I use it. There are plenty of case options out there so take your time choosing. Also, I've had good luck with my iCarPlay FM transmitter on long trips. The ExtremeMac case might come in handy here too as they make clips that can be used to mount the case on my dashboard if I so desire.

Enjoy!

Thanks. Does ephpod require the use of firewire? As for the earbuds I'm going to be using my Koss KSC-35s. As for case I just want something that looks nice isn't clunky? How much do cases go for? How does iCarPlay Cost and how does it fare versus the iTrip?

As for case how's this? Lajo iSkin Xskn EXO iPod Art Collection Phosphorus Case
