I don't really care if people change there name or not, that's totally up to them. But if you chose to keep some unfucking pronounceable name, deal with it when I fuck it up it. I'm not going to learn how to say it properly, or even try. People get upset at me when I say their name wrong, every Middle Easterner I've worked for/with used an American name, probably due to being sick of people fucking it up. My ex boss Majidi = Mike. His brother Galebeh(sp?) was Gary. My city has a ton of people from Lose(sp?) with crazy names, and they haven't seemed to have caught on to what the Middle Easterners do 😀

lol, you are an ignorant fuck.

not to mention douche extrordinaire

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you , California's Inland Empire.

Actually, I'm from St. Louis Mo, and have spent equal time in LA/OC/IE. I was born an asshole, it has nothing to do with the Inland Empire.

Ng? What the hell kind of name is that?

 It's pronounced ing. At least it's not some weird ass eastern euro name.

I'm trying to be funny. I deal with a lot of cultures/names in my business. Every single time I hear the word "hoshien" I make a fireball maneuver with my hands and scream out:

"how-osh-shun! how-osh-shun!"

Are you still trying to be funny? Are they genuinely laughing with you?

So, if an American moves to an Asian country, do they have to add a bunch of Xi's and Lo's to their name to make it easier to pronouce for them?

Brits working in Hong Kong have Chinese names. It's pretty awesome. Shit, even white people who are running for board of supervisor in SF have Chinese name on the ballot.

Well, then you ended up in the right place.

LOL at picture of the woman in the article.

I think that woman would have a conniption if Mandarin were the most common language in the US.

I didn't end up in the right place, you're not a IE'er unless you're willing to get the IE Bell tatted on your stomach, chest or back. I got the asshole part down, but I do not possess the IE pride.

I think having "english" names is stupid.

<-- kept my brown name, will name kids something easy to pronounce though

I knew an asian guy who chose his english name as Brad.. His last name was Lee though. He didn't know Brad --> Bradley so he became Bradley Lee

Asian names are actually really easy to pronounce if you learn the pronunciation key for pinyin (Chinese in our alphabet).

Yeah but only those coming from China will have their name spelled using pinyin. Singapore, HK, Taiwan, etc. etc. will do it differently. Then add the fact that Wong, Huang, Weng, Wang, etc. etc. could all simply be 'huang2' (yellow) depending on who did the transcribing.

And then, assuming all names could be standardized, it requires people to learn to say the words in another method. People here still have quesadillas "key-sa-dill-as"....

Yeah IMO I keep the name I'm given 😛 No need for anglicized version. Have trouble saying it? I'll help you say it, and you can remember next time

Korean names are pretty easy to pronounce - they're all one syllable.
I think it's the same with Chinese.
Don't think Vietnamese is - Japanese is definitely not.

Japanese seem to all have the same last name (most duplicated for that matter).

Sakurai, Sakamoto, Sakai, ....

There are many asians and eastern indians where I work and I can't pronounce a goddamn one of their names. I'd love to say "get the hell out of my way, hop sing" but I'd get fired 😛
