Hi, if you need stats calculated from a specific date you can use an offset like : http://sob.qik.nl/?team=53&offset=2008-01-01
I don't know if you are familiar with the DPC subteam structure, if you wish I can enable them for you to.
n.b. there are also several xml exports available.

DukeBox (sob.qik.nl statsbuilder).

How transparent is the SoB client to the end user? Can you set it to suspend when someone is working on the system? Also, what kind of bandwidth does it use? Depending on the answers I may be able to come up with a few machines or a few thousand.

you can install it as a service and tell it not to show up in the system tray, so that end of things is easy enough.

But then if it is invisible and you want to stop it, you have to use services.msc, so that's not so transparent.

I'm not sure you'd need to suspend it though. Everyone here is assuring me that if you set the priority to Idle, then it gets out of the way OK.

(not really tested here..... so I can't say that with any authority)

PS: nice to see you posting Crazee!

edit: oh yeah, the bandwidth.... you can tell it not to report the intermediate progress so that thakes a lot of the bandwith out of the equation. Also, I think there is a queueing program so you can dump when you want to so you can budget bandwidth if you need to.

edit (again): Here's a link to the SBQueue thing I mentioned

Good to see you around, Crazee! :D
I have no problems with SoB when I set the priority to idle.

From the Team Prime Rib SOB FAQ:

Q:
How much bandwidth does the Seventeen or Bust client use?

A:
Very little bandwidth is used by the client to return results and fetch a new number to work on. The bandwidth usage is likely measured in kilobytes per day.

"There is actually much more overhead due to Windows network layer transmitted than real data. If you run the client on a fast enough computer, you may burn a few kbs/day."

Thx for the tip for the stats. They are extremely usefull. :p Now I won't have to figure out the stuff myself. It would be a shame to not use this nice working stats-site with all its possibilities. I already saw the offset parameter discussed on the forum, but thought it would only work for the DPC themselves. ;)

I know how the subteam structure within DPC works, I guess. I've seen some of those subteams consisting of a few hunderd members. ;)
If it is possible to get that to work for our interteam race, that would be beautiful.

As you already have read, there are two subteams in this race. The first one is "Red Rascals" with the accounts of IJump and raysun2be. The other subteam is everyone else that is already on the teamroster or is going to appear on it.

Thx again for this generous offer, Dukebox.

[I always knew the DPC were an honourable adversary. You guys have always been that, since the good old RC5 days. :)]

Just a friendly suggestion ... ;)

I'm sure raysun2be wants to make a sticky of the thread, won't you ray. ;) Good idea.

Especially when someone threathens to hang us as a butterfly in a museum. :p
To do that they first have to catch us and since we're flying in formation the mosquitonet you are going to use, Rudy Toody, must be a very big one. You must also catch ray's pride, he won't leave without his beloved Little Red Rider. :D

EDIT: typo because my fingers were faster than I was thinking it. ;)

done.. already added IJump and raysun2be to the 'Red Rascals' subteam.

Can you mail me when the subteam needs to be removed ? Users can also remove/add themselves after registering and logging in to there personal page.

n.b. using the 'Disable subteams' option normal stats are still availible.

Thx, great. That will help saving time. ;)
I'll let you know when the subteams can be removed, so stress on the server will be kept to only the necessary. :)

Okay the bandwidth is good news, but the suspend may not be. I know most DC doesn't really drag a system, but you have to understand I deal with faculty that if for any reason their machine is running slow, they will blame it on anything that is using resources when they check.

If it will suspend when they are using the machine like a lot of BOINC projects then they won't see anything to blame. Also any network deployment tools? I can script something if necessary but why reinvent the wheel.

Crazee, I don't know of anything that would suspend SOB when people are using it. If you install SOB as a service, and they keep their PCs up and running all the time, you could stop the service as part of the user logon script, then start the service as part of a logoff script.

I don't know of any network deployment tools. Doesn't mean they aren't out there though. :)

Maybe something like this might help as far as remote management:

Maybe you could just run them a a certain time(overnight)??? That should be easy enough to do.
Better than nothing.

edit- oops, guess Ray kinda already said that

Thanks for the stats help DukeBox

What!?!?! No more work computers? Oh, that is bad.... I have another lab to set up in the next couple of weeks.... I guess I could put them on a "don't count me" account.. :(

Be carefull looking at a couple of my days in the stats. I had saved up for dumps on Christmas and New Years Eve. Those days are not normal. The last few at ~45-50 are normal for me. That is all of my work computers that I have on SoB dumping every day.

I think the team is up to it...

Just put them on my account in the mean time and I won't enter the race :D
