IJump, raysun2be and me (PeterN) want to congratulate everbody who have worked so hard to get to this point. In the SoB project we have achieved two major milestones. First one is passing the 20 Petabyte boundary. Second is taking over the #3 spot from our great adversaries 'Free-DC', who put up a tremendous fight in last december to counter our run for #3 before the year was over.

Now, to celebrate these two events, we three want to challenge the whole SoB-team of TA to a interteam race.

The idea is this:

IJump, raysun2be and me want to see if the rest of you can outproduce us during the cause of two months.

The rules for this interteam race are simple:

  1. Start date = January 15th
  2. End date = March 15th
  3. All TA SoB crunchers should dump whatever they have in their queues on January 14th.
  4. If dumping is not possible, then an average will be calculated on earlier results.
  5. If a new member is recruited by either IJump, raysun2be or me, then they will be added to our stats. All other new members will be added to the TA SoB-team stats, whether recruited or on their own.
  6. Stats will be taken from the DPC stats site, which can be found here. Reason for this is that there the statistics per day can be generated with fixed time frames. If a day is missed then, it won't be too difficult to get updated stats again. [The site is down for maintenance at the time of writing. ;) If it takes too long, stats from FreeDC will be used instead. :D]
  7. Stats will be posted as soon as possible and when time permits, but at least every other day.

That is it, I think! :light:

Now the big question is: Is our SoB-team ready for this challenge? :p

Hoping to lots of reactions, fun and whatelse comes to mind. :D

seeing how you guys are producing >600M of our total ~800M, I think I'll take a pass.

But thanks though :D

(I remember the game of pool where I was offered similar odds.. )

Thx for these encouraging words, but our strength lies totally in IJump's output. :D
If you look at the last weeks output of our whole SoB team, then the combined output of IJump, raysun2be and me is about 50% of our total teams output. You can check it here where the output of the last 28 days is sorted. :D [Don't confuse me with shmapty's output :p I wish I would have it though.] My output is directed to raysun2be's account. I don't have a seperate account. :D

Here the odds are not infavourable for the TA SoB-team. ;)

Before everyone freaks out, from a stats standpoint, it's basically IJump and RaySun2be against everyone else, which means you get Shmapty and AMDborg and everyone else.

To make it fair, we could ask IJump not to assimilate any additional work PCs (or entire labs ;) ) during the race. :)

FYI, PeterN has been crunching under my account. :)

At least think about it, I think it's doable and could be fun. :)

Sounds like a fun idea.

I'd be in with a few comps - not my output as it is now because just now all my TAS-computers are crunching SoB and beginning February 1st, TAS will move on to some other project.

Will PeterN do the stats? Great! :D

It would be a good way to crunch a lot and at the same time to overtake the 'Cows - which at today's production should take some 80 days (give and take and if the 'Cows do not recruit a lot of crunchers...) ;)

As I said above: good idea!

What!?!?! No more work computers? Oh, that is bad.... I have another lab to set up in the next couple of weeks.... I guess I could put them on a "don't count me" account.. :(

Be carefull looking at a couple of my days in the stats. I had saved up for dumps on Christmas and New Years Eve. Those days are not normal. The last few at ~45-50 are normal for me. That is all of my work computers that I have on SoB dumping every day.

I think the team is up to it...

Correction: we could ask IJump not to assimilate TOO MUCH additional work PC's. ;)

I know what TA is capable off (looking at the past here), my hunch is that we will need those extra boxes soon enough. :p

Thx :) , That's the purpose of this interteam race: HAVING LOTS OF FUN. ;)

And yep, I'll be the victim for providing you all with the stats. :p

Overtaking the cows is not the (main) purpose of this challenge. ;) Having fun doing it and get people overly excited for trying to give us a good spanking (but not too hard) is the main reason. To get closer to the DPC would be a nice bonus though. :p

Here is the down and dirty on the numbers over the past few days and week....

"Subteam"-----Yesterday----2 Days Ago------7 Day Average
IJump+Ray------49.05----------49.92--------------48.78
The Rest---------42.47----------40.00--------------36.84

In each case, the rest of the TeAm is within 10-15T. That is not an extremely large amount to make up. These numbers don't take into account dumps from a few people, who haven't dumped in the last week (NicColt)...

We can also go 1 vs The Rest if everyone feels that Ray just puts me over the top too far... ;)

And to put it even in more perspective ;)
Here are the monthly output data according to 'subteam' counted from today.

Total team production = 2.298.889.321 M
Prod. (IJump + Ray) = 1.078.741.406 M + 55.374.509 M = 1.134.115.915 M

So that leaves for the 'rest of TA SoB team:
2.298.889.321 M - 1.134.115.915 M = 1.166.773.406 M

In a months time that is even a surplus to you all. :p

Only thing to take into account here is that IJump started to increase his production dramatically on ~12 december or somewhere about. So you should add for that few days (4 or 5) roughly 20T per day (=80-100T).

I don't think the difference is a lot. :D

So, is TA up to this challenge after all this scrutinizing of our output :) ??

Hmm, you're right. From an overall team and project perspective, NOT assimilating additional labs or PCs would be a bad thing, considering our drive to overtake the DPC.

But I don't want to make it hard on you by creating a second account just to keep them separate for the race.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to track that?

Why? Just let IJump assimilate as much as he wants - and encourage the others to do likewise!

For one person to assimilate one lab (e.g. 10 - 20 computers I guess) is impossible unless being in a similar position as IJump. (I am not ... ;) )
For a gang of 30 - 33 people (the other team... :p ) to add a total of 10 - 20 computers over a period of 2 months should not be too hard.

Not adding - assimilating - recruiting - would harm the TeAm and the project. Doing the opposite - assimilating - adding - recruiting - benefits all.

That's the spirit. Thx Petrus. Just what I wanted to hear. :) :D

And ofcourse, don't forget it is the TOTAL output of those two months that will determine who's the winner. Two months is a lot of time to increase your production.

Even if every member of 'the other team' adds a mere .5T, that would be an increase of roughly 15-17.5T. I know some of you are masters in assimilating new computers and are capable of adding more than that .5T. :p

And what to think of recruiting completely new members, doesn't matter where they come from. Does anyone remember the recruiting spree our own borg-protege dennilfloss was on in those RC5-64 days? You only need one or two 'dennilfloss' look-a-likes to completely whipe us of the map. :)

[For those of you who don't know or remember dennilfloss: He started a recruiting drive for the Borg-team as opponent to the Federation (of which I and IJump were a member). In his effort he pulled in lots of new people that would install the DNet client on their computer on behalf of the Borg. (You know: the 'Resistence is futile' race from Star Trek).]

To add some spice to this race: TAS will award the TeAm AnandTech Sentinel Mini-Race Championship Belt to the top cruncher on the winning side!

This belt is currently in safe-keeping under caferace's pillow! He has had it far too long! (He does need to send us a picture, though!)

The belt is a temporary trophy--- it will be sent on to the next Mini-Race winner.

The winner is encouraged to rivet a small medallion with his name and contest date onto the belt. And to send a picture with the belt.

Well, you know I love it when the team pulls together for the greater good.

I am a folder (f@H) normally and brought some PCs here to help TAS and show some appreciation for a fun month of December.

So While I won't (probably) have the same amount to put in to SoB in February and March, I'll be happy to commit to putting in something over that time.

I think I understand how it could be competative if some of the rest of the temporary TAS folks could leave a little something too, but that's up to them. Who knows, maybe we'll drum up some new faces when the bigger TeAm AnandTech sees what we're trying to do.

That'll take a regular stats thread and lots of posting from the race participants... is TeAm SoB up to it? I'm just meeting all of you so I have no idea of your metal.

If you're in.... I am too!

Cheers

-Sid

I say assimilation.... big or small.... by the winners or the .... notwinnerssomuch should be welcomed and cheered by all........ go for it IJump!

This sounds like an excellent idea!!!

One lab=30 computers....

Not adding computers would be bad for the TeAm... I like adding computers...

hmmm

this sounds like an interesting prospect to me

I need some more boxes to add :p but I've already added on the mini work fleet I have access too but had to take down one due to someone thinking the fan was a bit loud (didn't tell them why it was amped up :D )

Sounds cool but I'm not going to commit at this point.

This is my first project with TAS and I have had 2 rigs running SoB since Jan 1 and will continue for the rest of the month. Since this is my first "tour" with TAS I would like to commit 2 of my 3 rigs to future TAS projects. I really like the SoB TeAm (great TeAm-mates!) but I would also like to contribute to other TeAms too.

Tough decision!:)

another glass of :wine: might help!

Edit:

PS: lot of bovine action today...83 crunchers now. Now where is that cattle prod?

You don't have to commit to the challenge with all your computers or all the time. ;)
As said, the race is about the winner (one or the other) with the most production for that period of time. :p As being a member of TAS, you're not obliged to keep doing SoB, nobody is (but it would be nice though :p ).

If there is a positive majority for this effort (which I think is the overall sense in this thread) then we'll go ahead with IJumps' and rays' accounts against all the others. :D

And for the PS: yes, they are more active, but a lot have the option transmit intermediate blocks unchecked, so only completed tests are send in. It will take a while before their production rises notably. There is a slight steady rise though, since the last week or so.

None of my home computers crunch SoB. I had wanted to put some owrk computers on other projects as well, but I can't get psat the BOINC proxy issues... but I will do that eventually.
