Actually Tuffguy the fact that ford has sold so many more 4 cyl (late 80's early 90's) and 6 cyl mustangs than their 8cyl counterparts totally disproves your statement about the large motor being the sole buying factor.

Don't get me wrong, eclipses are nice, just the only people I see driving them are women (not that there is anything wrong with that)-kind of like the ford probe or the geo metro

I raced a few eclipses before when I had the saleen, and while they might have been the lower end version, not only did I take them in the top end speed end of it, my car also managed to out manuever them, granted I had alot of money into suspension but still my car in total cost considerably less than a new eclipse.

mwielding, nice car except for the paxton.

Your right you wont find that for under 6k-but you could find a good deal on a non SE version

pre-97 integra (not Type R) or Prelude Si

personally I don't like Eclipse... and I dislike miatas.

RX-7 would be a very nice choice

Ford Mustang LX 5.0. I agree that even on your budget there will be a lot you can do with this car and it will be a blast to drive. Older Eclipses are fast with a turbo and AWD, but there are too many things that can break on them. When I was in college a buddy of mine had one and went through about 3 manual transmissions in 4 years.

'92 Prelude SI.

It has handling and saves on gas, plus the engine has a pretty damn good kick around 4500 RPM's. 🙂

90-92 Nissan 300ZX Sharp, and fast

Shell out another 2-3 thousand and you can bump that up to a twin turbo model...

<< he said A BETTER RIDE not a faster car. also, find me a corvette that is LESS THAN 10yrs old and under $10k... >>

I just did a search and found a few under cars.com, and I found a whole lot more @ autotrader.com

Do yourself a favor and get the MKIII Supra. 90-92 models with turbo are great. You get the speed, the bragging rights of owning a supra, and you do not get made fun of for driving it (unlike the Eclipse, they're girls car).

Mustanges rule but how about an older Cougar, they have the 302 5.0 motor and are cheaper than a stange and all the parts that would fit a stange fit the cougar (motor wise). And you actually get a back seat for your friends too!!!!!

I have a different reccomendation from the other people. Lot of good advice that they have given though.

I would reccomend this for a pure sports car though, not daily driver, although you could use it.

I'd get the cheapest honda civic hb I could find, i guess maybe 92 model or something. No engine, even better. Get from Salvage shop even better. Get a used B18A (integra GSR) engine. NOS.

'nuff said. I'm sure it will spank 99% of the cars on the road.

<< Just remembered another '91 or '92 Dodge Spirit R/T---good for low 6 sec. 0-60 times and it looks like a granny car. >>

Otherwise known as the M5 Killer (of it's time) and the SHO stopper 😀

im sure i will not spank 99% of the cars on the road

Umm either you're not familiar with Hondas or you're just flamebaiting

Blah get a beater, put big tires on it and a rocket engine in the trunk. 🙂 J/K

If your looking for performance get the fastest you can for $6000, if your looking for something that will last, well that's not as easy. Check places like edmunds.com. It'll give you a good starting point.
