Sampsa over at Xtreme got a couple X1800XT's to play with before the official launch. Looks like he's still under NDA so he can't post much, but he did mention that he's hit 16.5k+ in 3DMark05 with stock cooling on the cards. Here is the post. See # 338.

Obviously he can't post pics but he's a very reputable guy so I have no issues believing what he says. I'm curious to see how things pan out when he throws some LN2 on those babies.

Wow, that's some nice numbers  But currently I feel neither the X1800XT nor the 7800GTX 512 is worth buying. One is a "prototype" (for the R580). The other is two slot, very expensive, and about to be discontinued. If the X1800XT can get 16000+ stock cooling, I can't wait for R580. As I understand it, ATI just refuses to add more pipes, but their cards take less of a hit from AA.

Ya, if the R580 really is coming out at the end of January and it's a beast like everyone keeps saying, than both the X1800XT and the 512MB 7800GTX probably aren't the best buy right now. However, if the new cards from Nvidia and ATI are pushed back to late Q1 or Q2 than the X1800XT looks to be a good buy.

By the way, the 16.5K score was from two X1800XT's in Crossfire which is still pretty incredible.

What was there clocks? Probably upped voltage.
The WR for 3dmark05 is 18.6k i think it was. Done with two 7800GTX 512mb clocked at 700/2000 with a 3.9ghz FX-57 i think it was.

Pretty damn insane.

edit- 3dmark05 is already getting CPU bound!!!!

Not sure what the clocks were. Someone mentioned that he was using a dual-core FX (i.e. FX-60) at 3.1GHz, but I'm not sure if that person really knew or was just guessing.

Sampsa said he's gunning for the top spot on the ORB so I guess we'll see what happens. He's got a lot more headroom if he cools the cards with LN2 but it'll be tough to find an extra 2000+ points even with that.

Are you saying I shouldn't have started a thread about it??? I thought it was pretty interesting and I thought you guys would too.

Sampsa did mention he recieved an FX-60 so maybe that's what he's using.

:) I'm buying a quad Core Athlon X4 at 4Ghz. And a Nvidia G90 with 1Ghz Core and 2.5Ghz Memory.
