ugh, what's with all the hardcore anti-cell phone sentiment in here? i dont understand it

before i had a cell phone i didn't give a damn about ppl with it

now that i have a cell phone i still feel the same way... i keep it on Vibrate at all times and don't talk on it when it is a nuisance... while cashiering ive had many people yack away and making eye contact only to hand me their credit card... now that's bad cell phone etiquette...

rudeness/snobbiness has nothing to do with the cellular phones... its just plain common sense and tact that some people dont seem to posess

Heheh, if my friends and I are in some sort of "business"-looking attire for whatever reason we'll hit a restaraunt and he'll call my phone (under the table) and I'll answer mine as if I were his assitant and hand it to him. He'll then proceed to get into a rather loud and fake argument with an "employee" and end the conversation with:

"TELL YOU WHAT! You're FIRED! You're F&*cking FIRED! Pack up your sh*t and be out of the office by the time I get there! You screwed the pooch on this one and I'm not taking any sh*t for you anymore!"

It's really hilarious from our perspective, people will just stop eating and stare in disbelief, dropped-jaw and all. I wonder if it makes them think about their own job security.

Anyway, when I'm not trying to be an a**hole I generally talk quietly, or not at all. Often I use it like a vibrator and return the call when I have the chance (with the added benefit of not having to pay 50 cents for a payphone....added because this is my primary/only phone)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm 16, and I have a cell phone mostly for emergencies especially now that I drive a car.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't get that. I know I dealt with emergencies just fine when I was 16 without a cell phone. Nobody had cell phones then.

Make sense to me if you get in trouble in the middle of nowhere (like anywhere in Nebraska, Iowa, Central Wisconsin/Minnesota.....Midwest really).

I have no apologies that I have a cell phone and use it often. It is a great tool for me because I am always on the road or on the go. I shouldn't have to live in the dark ages because of just a few people who are anti-cell phone. My freaking grandparents have a cell phone so some of you people need to get with the times.

I am not a rude asshole when talking on my phone. I talk quietly and clearly and no one ever asks me to speak up.

You don't have to answer it. I always chuckle at people at bars who obviously can't hear the other person, and don't go someplace quiet. Instead they yell into the thing and look annoyed that the slobs around them won't quiet down.

Most people treat answering their cell phones as an urgent top priority, superceding weddings, graduation, movies, surgeries, signing that treaty between Afarat and Israel.

Funny how people can ignore a land line during dinner, but if that cell phone rings.....

Cell phones have their uses. But it just seems to me like people are using cell phones more than interacting with people around them. It's like everyone is building isolation booths around themselves, and SCREW the rest of humanity.

So much for the rest of us..... -kd5-

It's no worse than all the people sitting on the subway listening to their discman or MP3 player, often so loud that you can hear it on the other side of the train.

What is this "rest of humanity" you speak of? It's not like I talk to the other people in the grocery store unless I know them anyway, and I'm the type of guy who really does just strike up a random conversation with people in the store. It's kinda nice to do my grocery shopping AND catch up with my mother at the same time, and then when I get home I have an extra hour to work on my aquarium, or talk to my gf or hang out with my brother.

the size of new phones probably doens't help. mentally knowing ur phones mic is somewhere up the side of ur cheek makes people talk loud...

people like yapping in places they shouldn't be, libraries etc. yes they sometimes walk into a hall but damn the volume makes up for any distnace.

if uanswer ur phone in a theater, i reserve the right to smack u.

i will key ur car if i find out which one it is:)

I can't help but reply once more...

Just like with many other things in this world we live in, let people purchase whatever the %#%^ they want with their money. People here complain about others driving SUVs but not minivans and pickups for christ's sake. I don't see anyone complaining about the guy driving a Porsche on the highway with the 60mph speed limit. Think about it.

We have special freedom and privileges that many people in the world don't (and I'm not talking only about technology)... yet there's always a chunk of our society saying how this and that is stupid to own and pointless. I realize this is a public forum for opinions, but the whining that goes on about menial things is absurd. Let people do whatever they want with their money. Cell phones as a modern convenience is frowned upon to some of you? So what if a 16 year old has one in his car for emergencies? Just because you were okay without a phone in 1975 doesn't mean people today should act the same way. How can anyone not admit the cell phone makes all our lives easier? So what if people use them to ask about how the other person's day is going? They have that convenience and they have that freedom (so long as they obey all laws). The laptop computer was created for mobile use - take your $#!t anywhere. So what if people listen to MP3s or load up a game of Solitaire? It's not its intended purpose, but it's got the capabilities - so why not use it.

EDIT>> Granted, people must use their own moral judgment about when to use the phone... but it's the same as anything else. Would you blow smoke in a non-smoker's face? Would you tailgate someone on the highway? It's not up to us to tell them it's wrong. It's up to them to realize it.

Nobody is asking every one of us to get a cell phone. If you think it's stupid, then you obviously don't need one - what more is there to the story? What more can we find to complain about ? What is working good for if you don't enjoy the things you can buy with the money you earn? Hell, if I win tonight's lottery, I'm buying a mansion for my fiance and I, even though we won't be able to use 90% of the rooms. Big f%#king deal. Relax and enjoy your life while you still have good health.

here's a question for cellphone morons. *flame! flame!*

why don't u just set it to ring once? that way you won't spend your time like a moron frantically digging in ur purse to shut off the inspid tune u've picked as your personal ring tone. really.. how many times are u really far enuph away from ur phone not to hear the blaring ring the first time?
