CDRW: Plextor VS Creative

OK:

looking for new IDE CD-RW...seemed to have narrowed it dfown to a 12/10/32 from either Creative or Plextor.

1) which is better for ripping audio tracks?

2) WHich is better for hassle free use..ie direct cd, packet writing, etc...just general performance

well just from what i have read i would have to go with the plextor if i were making that decision now....its suppose to have a new solution to the buffer under run problem and also it claims that you can now run other applications while your burning a cd...i know i have an hp and it works great but i cant do anything while its doing its thing.
check out pc mag they voted the plextor i think number 1

I amy be mistaken but i believe it is plextor that makes the creative drive.

It's a common practice known as rebadgeing where a company makes drives for a few others. The only difference in the name and the faceplate. 😉
 
The Plextor is the one to get. I've heard that Creative OEM's there drives from different companies, so some might be Plextor's while others are from other companies, so it's kind of a gamble getting the Creative drive.
 
If you can find a deal on the TDK or Iomega, you can just get those. The TDK and the Iomega are both Plextors (though I read that newer Iomegas might be Sanyos), and the TDK has the best software package.
 
There is a reason why ppl praise plextor, there not zealots. Plextor takes care of the consumer from jump street, they use metal gears in there mechanics to extend the life of their drives. Unlike some companys who just toss in a bunch of soft white gears that get stripped after heavy use. Even plextors new 16x burner has an exhaust fan on it. So there are no plextor zealots only wise consumers.
 
I have a Creative 8435E(a rebadged Samsung). Stick with Plextor and you won't be sorry. Plextor support is much superior to that offered Creative(which is almost none).
 
Go with Plextor. Although a cheaper alternative and very nice reviews for me would be the Teac as a close second. They've always made solid cdrom drives and never had problems with them.
 
Let's try to illustrate this question to something a little more common, like cars:

"Which should I buy -- a Yugo or a Mercedes?"

Substitute Creative for Yugo and Plextor for Mercedes, and the answer should come to you. 😀
 
I just got the Plextor 12x10x32 SCSI CDR-RW to go with the Plextor 40x SCSI CD-ROM I had, what a dream combo. The Plex 40x does DAE in the 20+x range and the 12x writing brings a CD in in under 7 mins.
If the $$$ is no object, Plextor all the way!
 
No contest. Plextor. Add to the reliability the fact that everybody who writes burning software supports them, which definitely isn't the case with creative burners. The extra $ are worth the aggravation you'll save.
 
Check into it, it's a good chance the creative 12x10x32 is the exact same drive as the plextor so why pay more for the plex.
 
get a plextor.. i have a creative hate it.. and it died in about 3 months had to get that RMA.. but definately get a plextor all i hear is good things about them
 
Well not that you need more advice...plextor. I have the new 16/10/40 and well it kicks ass. The nicest drive I have ever seen great quality.
