Nope,no tabs of any kind,i had only msi afterburner 2.2 open with fraps and that was it on my system when i played BC2 and it hardlocked, only time that game hardlocks is when i close it,not a moment sooner, before the desktop comes back i get the blackscreen.

Both BF3 and BC2 lowered my core clock to 501 mhz randomly mid game, before the new hard drive and os reinstall, everything worked fine.

The os reinstall i basically duplicated all the driver versions for my motherboard, the video card and software, even the soundblaster soundcard has the most recent drivers and it seemed to work fine for like a hour or two but i think its a idle issue,if my machine is idle for even a hour, issues arise till i reboot.

Only fix thus far that works is going back to rc11 and ab 2.1...

Afterburner might be the culprit. I have seen numerous threads where instability with AMD cards was cured by removing AB.

I think so also but i think its driver conflicted,as i had a 6750 and a 6790 for a short time,and i never encountered these issues.

Just replaced it a little over a hour ago with the sapphire trixx application, liking this app much more, and i was able to apply a 1.186v voltage to the core of my 7970 bringing it to 1200,memory now at 1650.

3 BF3 rounds, its pretty stable no funny business of any kind.

I don't doubt it's driver conflicts of some kind either. It's just that I don't expect compatibility with O'C'ing utilities to be a big concern, compared to performance improvements with their own software and games.

I hope your troubles are fixed, though.

Sounds like the troubles were all OC utility related afterall. I figured as much, at least for the single GPU users. Crossfire AND overclocking adds in so many variables (not to mention the possibility of weakened hardware) that I don't even have a suggestion of where to start (other than stop OCing at minimum).
Stock clocks, stock volts, on WHQL releases only here.. never any issues to report!

Flash or youtube throttles the GPU clock down, you probably had a browser window open...or WMP

I run fullscreen Flash, WMP and game simultaneously most of the time. I've never had an issue or if my card is being downclocked, it's still fast enough for the game? FWIW though, I do disable Flash GPU acceleration, so that probably takes Flash out of the equation.

.

Gigabyte trixx has been good to me today, been gaming on and off all day at 1200/1650 on my 7970 at 1.186v and its just a very beautiful thing,i deleted msi afterburner, washed my hands of it,trixx does everything msi does it seems besides the OSD which my perfectionist ass was using mostly to monitor temps but i know my build enough to say its fine without monitoring now.
