Cat saves baby that escaped from her crib from falling down steep stairs....

I've seen cats defend 3rd parties from aggressors before, but one being aware of what stairs + baby equals is new to me.

Went for the neck grab like it would with a kitten. Wasn't going to work so body block and paws up. That, is an awesome cat. Someone deserves all the gourmet cat food and cardboard boxes they want. Good find Linux.

So why isn't there a baby gate at the top of the stairs? 🙄 I thought that was a common item new parents buy by the time they have crawling babies to worry about. Or just don't small children upstairs in the first place.

I'm not a cat person. It looked more like the cat was attacking the baby rather than saving him. Also why did the cat attack the baby again when he was crawling away from the stairs?

Looks more like building a story to fit a video. They were just fortunate that the cat interrupted the babies crawling off the top step.

And where the heck are the parents?

It's unreal to me how many people on a forum can't read.

It looked like the cat was "attacking" because it went for the neck first, because that is how cats move their kittens - they bite the extra skin on the neck and carry them with their teeth. As someone mentioned, once the cat realized it could not do that, the cat got in front of the baby and pushed him.

That is one amazing video, very very cool. Thanks for sharing.

At first I was surprised that cats cared but then I realized its just defending its future servant. Still pretty cool

yeah it looks like some slum house

maybe that's just some post-post-modern design on the floor

I'm guessing your top answer is closer

This one is my favorite. It looks like the cat is definitely, intentionally, defending the boy.

No offense OP, but I agree with Sandorski on the video you posted. It looks to me like the cat just considers the upstairs his territory and is defending it against the baby. I have seen several videos like this where cats wont let a dog go up the stairs.

Spent enough time around cats to know that's not 'normal behavior' for cats, if they're just being aggressive. Against things larger than themselves they generally hit and run and/or keep a clear exit for themselves, they don't get in front of something. Cat def was preventing that child from going in that direction after an attempted neck scruff. I concur, tuna and cardboard boxes forever.

Pets usually seem to know a small human is a baby and try to protect them. The cat did what it would do if it was a kitten and was trying to keep it from falling down the stairs.

We have a cat and several dogs. One of the small dogs is a Maltese mix and can be aggressive. I was sitting on the sofa one day and my foot got too close to one of his new toys. He started attacking me. The cat was nearby lounging on a piece of furniture. She immediately jumped down, ran towards the dog and started slapping him. The dog was like WTF and backed away. The cat stayed there next to me for about 10 minutes watching the dog and protecting me. Needless to say kitty got extra treats and petting that day.

Maybe you should train your dog so it's not aggressive towards people... particularly it's owner...

I don't like cats much but I have to disagree here. That cat definitely was protecting the baby as it would a kitten.
