Maybe you should train your dog so it's not aggressive towards people... particularly it's owner...

He's twelve years old and belongs to my mother-in-law who lives with us in a M-I-L suite. She got the dog from the daughter of a neighbor. He lost one eye due to an accident with his previous owner and we also think he may have been abused. He's normally a good dog but certain things trigger him to get mad/attack.

Wife and I were talking about this on the way to lunch today. That cat probably felt it would get blamed for the baby going down the stairs. Either that, ot the cat was investing in future humans to feed it.

I don't like cats much but I have to disagree here. That cat definitely was protecting the baby as it would a kitten.

I agree. And then on the second go, the cat realized it was hungry and assumed that it deserved a little treat of baby snack, and so then tried to eat the baby.

Pretty much. Any time a cat "saves" a baby, it's along the lines of "I'm pretty full right now, so I'll save that for later".

OH, and I think we should all acknowledge the real issue here is incredibly shitty parenting and one day those cats won't be able to save anyone and then we're gonna have another Eric Clapton situation on our hands.

According to the rules of our new Welsh overlords, you arent allowed to attack me anymore.
But then, about a year ago I was forbidden from using the Report button so I guess you are safe.

It's unreal to me how many people on a forum can't read.

It looked like the cat was "attacking" because it went for the neck first, because that is how cats move their kittens - they bite the extra skin on the neck and carry them with their teeth. As someone mentioned, once the cat realized it could not do that, the cat got in front of the baby and pushed him.

That is one amazing video, very very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Right.

Why did the cat attack the baby again when it was crawling away from the stairs?

Cats are loving guardians when they realize they're the parent now, but have absolutely zero problem with corporal punishment of their "kids".

I'm not a cat person. It looked more like the cat was attacking the baby rather than saving him. Also why did the cat attack the baby again when he was crawling away from the stairs?

Obviously you're not a cat person. :D

A cat always has to have the last word, and will 110% of the time get a last punitive swat or hiss to drive home the point. They're sore winners. If you've raised kittens, you'd also know that they also have an attention span and focus on goals that's freaky compared to humans. From a cat's perspective, the baby was just slinking off to get a better angle on the stairs, because no cat would ever give up that easily, and obviously needed the lesson reinforced further.

And where the heck are the parents?
Taking a nap.

I suppose they'll be shutting that door from here on out....or well, parenting and not leaving their kids unattended in a room that close to stairs.

I can say that because I kept my kids alive and didn't have a cat or dog to do parenting for me.

Could have used that cat when I was like 2. :p Ran up to a flight of concrete stairs and just ran right off of em and smashed my head pretty good. I don't actually remember any of it.

Doctor said he would have died, but fortunately there were no vital organs up there.
