Go guy a 512MB GTX... 😱
Starting next tuesday, Radeon X1000 owners will be able to download, for free, ATI's Catalyst 5.13 driver and a Cyberlink H.264 decoder that hooks into ATI's GPU and enables hardware acceleration of H.264. More specifically, ATI's Radeon X1000 GPU in combination with the Cyberlink H.264 decoder will handle the in-loop deblocking, motion compensation and inverse transform that occur during H.264 decoding. Unfortunately, ATI only had a beta ready for us in time for this review, so there were some bugs. Right now ATI is hoping to have the final version available on the 22nd.
ATI's Gift to X1000 Owners - Get the Avivo Video Converter, Today!
Last year ATI was busy launching a bunch of cards that didn't make it to stores in time for the holidays, but thanks to the Avivo team things are working a little different this time around. ATI has given us permission to distribute the beta Avivo Video Converter to our readers today under one condition - that we make it very clear that this converter is not supported by ATI, so don't complain if things don't work perfectly.
Despite that warning from ATI, we had fewer problems with the Avivo Video Converter than we did with the beta H.264 decoder - it's actually in amazingly good shape for unsupported, pre-release software.
The download is approximately 2.3MB zipped and you can get it here. Feel free to distribute it as you would like - you can grab it here. Remember, it only works on ATI Radeon X1000 cards but who knows if some of our more creative users may be able to find ways around that.

Yeah right ackmed, this entire thread itself contradicts what you just said.
CHildish name calling? Cry me a river. First of all it was a joke. Second of all, that was nothing compared to what goes on in this forum.
Referring to people who had posted in this thread as 'fanATIcs' (and calling the thread a 'circle jerk') is contributing to 'what goes on in this forum'. Your post certainly did not come across as a joke to everyone, and other people doing worse things does not make posting flamebait acceptable.
Looks like teams to me. Even though you try to hide it ackmed (and most of the time do a good job of it) you are one of the biggest fanboys on this forum.
You quote three *other* people, then conclude Ackmed is a 'fanboy'? Good reasoning skills there. And also a personal attack; just what the thread needed. :disgust:
Sounds to me like you're a fanboy too Mathias, calling me out, but ignoring the bias fanboy statements made by numerous people in this thread alone... not even considering the entire forum... just like Ackmed.

You're reasoning skills seem to be a little rusty too Mathias. Ackmed calls me out, but ignores the fanATIcs who use the term "nVidiot" and other clearly bias statements???

The similar case hapens on the r200 too when Ati decided to not support r200 in Vista and their CCC

Does H264 support work yet? and how would that affect DVD decoding tests?
H.264 support is not yet working on the GeForce 7800 series. It wouldn't affect the performance or image quality of DVD decoding tests at all however, as DVD playback utilises the MPEG-2 codec.

Hell...last night I tried playing Da Vinci 1080p on my 6800NU and it was skippy. I received my 7800GT and installed it just today, and Da Vinci 1080p playback is *almost* flawless, but only in the Nero ShowTime player. It could have just been the reboot (shut off from uninstalling other card), but I have a feeling H.264 support is working.
It says H.264 for this driver:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1116
And I'm using 81.95 WHQL. I assume it's in 81.85 as well since it's later?
And yes, the PureVideo chip is different in the 7800 series from the 6800s. It adds H.264 support.
Untill its working, how is that different than the h264 support claimed for NV40 when it launched? And yes, the PureVideo chip is different in the 7800 series from the 6800s. It adds H.264 support.

First: other people doing something against the forum's rules does not make it okay for you to do it as well. Second: this is about you, not Ackmed. *You* started it with your first post in this thread, which was pretty clear flamebait.
There were other people toeing the line in this thread, but your post was siginficantly worse than any of them.

I'm not going to sink to your level; I think the thread and your comments speak for themselves.

You and other so-called "neutrals" (throw Ackmed in this group as well) are the biggest reason this forum is the way it is.
If someone posts something praising Nvidia and ATI fans crap the thread, then it's ok.
Someone posts something praising ATI and ATI fanboys flame Nvidia, it's also ok.
But as soon as an "nVidiot" posts something similar to the anti-Nvidia FUD in this thread, then it's detrimental to the forums?
Give me a break.
My first couple of posts were directed at Ackmed anyways, who asked you to butt in?
EDIT: Dont even bother responding Mathias, for the sake of the OP, others interested in the topic and not having this thread locked, I'm done with this thread.

😀
Haha, good job anyway ATI. Nice to see them offering something worth reading about.
You sir are a nvidiot. ATI has the performance crown for cards that are in production, the 512mb GTX is no longer available and was never planned on being in production long. ATI's crossfire is 5-7% faster then Nvidia's SLI and to top it off they have better video playback. Learn more spam less, yes Nvidia has a good card the 7800GT but that is the only card worth buying from them.

H.264 support was claimed for the NV40? I only remember MPEG-2 and WMV.
For some reason the Da Vinci Code 1080p plays a lot faster on my system today than it did last night. I can definitely confirm that (not the placebo effect). The cause of the speed-up I don't know, but I suspected it to be the 7800GT. The 1080p clips never played fast on my system so that leers me away from thinking it was just a reboot...who knows. Then again I do find it odd NVIDIA wouldn't be touting it. Only the Nero decoder seems to be fast. Maybe the Nero decoder has some sort of acceleration in it (shaders?) FFDShow and Moonlight decoders are laggy. Nero too was laggy last night.
If this is 'H.264 acceleration' though I'd be disappointed because there was some stuttering, but the vast majority of it was fine.
