Cat 3.6 out

Czar

Lifer
http://ati.com/support/driver.html

Keeping the tradition of frequent CATALYST updates, I would like to announce the availability of CATALYST 3.6. We are now picking up the pace of postings and providing our end users newer and better drivers. This posting updates the driver to version 7.91 The focus of this posting is compatibility and stability improvements

Some compatibility/stability fixes include:

* The game Unreal Tournament 2003 no longer hangs when loading the CTF-December level

* Flickering and display corruption in the game NeverWinter Nights is now resolved

* Multimedia mode scaling and positioning issues have now been resolved when using TV out

* Display corruption noticed on the ATI Demo Rachel running under Windows XP is now resolved

* The lighting and triangle culling on the 3D pipes screensaver no longer is incorrect when using a RADEON(tm) 7000 series card under Windows 2000

* Significant CPU usage is no longer noticed when Hardware Overlay Alpha Deblocking is in use

"* Multimedia mode scaling and positioning issues have now been resolved when using TV out "
best fix EVER 😀

Why does it always seem that new Cat drivers are a serious of bug fixes instead of actual performance increases?

Don't get me wrong, the bug fixes are welcome, but why so many bugs in the first place?

I don't think there are any performance increases because the performance is where it should be..

But the stability isn't quite there yet 😉

Wow just installed 3.5s yesterday! Oh well guess I could use some reboots 🙂

Hmm wonder if they were actually the new 3.6s, guess I'll to check 🙂

Fast server they have there. Everyone must be sleeping behind the wheel. 🙂

I wonder if these fix the alpha blending anomalies in TW2003?

I don't think there are any performance increases because the performance is where it should be..

Most definitely.

True, but for the most part i would consider the Cat's just as stable as the Det's...

I haven't used an NVIDIA card in almost 8 months, but I don't remember their driver releases being just a major list of bugfixes.

Just installed them,I was using the old 3.5s on my 5 day old Sapphire 9700NP,I will say these 3.6s have better image quality at desktop compared to the old 3.5s.

Now to try some games out.

Btw new version of Driver Cleaner available,up to 1.9 now from here .

well, for one many of the bugs are related to games that specifically favor Nvidia cards with special commands. Neverwinter Nights for example...

nvidia doesn't list bugfixes at all. Nor do they list any fixes. They just release beta drivers all the time. What do you think they do? They fix bugs

Speak for yourself.

Has anyone notice the image quality just got even better without dropping frames? Unreal and Quake3 looks twice as better than my old GF4 here.

True, but most of the NVIDIA drivers that I used increased performance with every driver release. I haven't seen the same from ATI.

I think Ati's stability and image quality goes up with every single driver release...

nVidia as of late seems to let the image quality "slip" a bit resulting in some better performace..

increased performance with every driver release.

Performance Increased? But has the Image Quality increased as well?

"That's alot of frames there dood! Oh wait, you're only using 16 colors?! "

*GG*

I notice a relatively long delay in between resolution changes using any Cats with my 9700P. Hard drive is accessed at the time of resolution change too. Never happened with my NVidia cards. Anyone else notice this?

Do you roll at the truth?

Closer to a gross exaggeraton than the truth.

I have been using my 9700np for about a week now in my new college rig, side by side with my GF4 rig. While I am impressed by the Radeon, it leaves something to be desired. I dunno, whether or not its because I havent been using the right settings or if its just because you guys hyped up the card way too much, but the difference in image quality is NOT as drastic as you guys make it sound. I will admit it looks better, and runs faster with AA/AF, but it's not the bombshell I had expected.
