Well, I consider Tom Hanks the best actor out there, and have thought so for many years. And the last time he did a movie with director Robert Zemeskis (sp?), they created what I consider to be the greatest movie ever, Forrest Gump (why is this not on DVD....sob 🙁 ).
As for Cast Away....I was rather disappointed. It wasn't the acting (and what a testament to Tom Hanks' acting ability when he makes you almost cry over a volleyball...) but it was the way they did the movie. NFS4 mentions that someone didn't like it because it didn't have the flash of a typical Hollywood movie. I strongly disagree with this, as look at Forrest Gump, which besides the intriguing idea of placing Forrest in historic events, there were none.
The movie itself, as I mentioned, is "different". A great deal of the movie is spent on what I call, "quite time". It's almost like watching a nature show. I did indeed become bored, but it was not a terrible movie at all. It just wasn't up there with other legendary Tom Hanks movies, in my opinion.
