Is it considered a case mod that I had to use pliers to mangle one of the rivets on the back of the I/O shield to be able to get my AGP card in?

LOL...Technically yes as any Hard change/differt look from stock/original look is considered 1 Mod !:camera:

i'm interested in modding my case (dremel work). would anybody suggest a decent dremel tool (around 50 bucks would do)? thanks in advance
 
All right all you modding gurus: I've been contemplating building a pc right into the wall. I know that walls aren't very thick, so this will obviously take a lot of planning. One thing I'm concerned about is cooling. I'm not really interested in just sticking a case into the wall; I'd rather build the parts in and place fans and such strategically throughout. Also, I'd probably put an access panel and some vents on the other side(i.e., I'd have to go into another room, like my utility room, to change out parts). Any suggestions or thoughts on materials that would help this along?

I'd cut out a section of sheetrock on the back side of the wall, to the size of enclosure you want. Then I'd add 2x4's (or 2x6's depending on wall thickness) to enclose that area inside the wall. Now you have a box.
Then I'd make a door for the backside of the wall. 3/4" plywood is available with a top laminate of spruce (used for cabinet making) and that paints real well and is very smooth.
I'd mount a motherboard tray or a cut out section of an old case to mount the motherboard on and screw that onto a piece of 1/4" plywood. The 1/4" plywood can be mounted inside the wall to the sheetrock of the front wall- so that when you open the access door you are facing the motherboard. Then cut holes in the front wall and door for fans. The holes can be lined with appropriate sized pvc pipe cut down to 3/4" lengths and trimmed with plastic moulding. You could put filters in there or even trim out the holes with filters.
If you make the 1/4" plywood a little bigger than the motherboard you can cut holes for CD/DVD drives and I/O shield. But your wall will have to be thick enough if you want the drives totally enclosed.
Then you need to run some power in there, or run your psu cord out of the wall. A receptacle box with a cable face plate would work good for that.

Good start. Couple of things. You will probably want to do this low down as you will have to have all input/output cables coming out below desk height. Make your cuts in the sheetrock nice and clean as it's a pain to repair. If you have 4" studs (as is normal ) you will have to make the wall deeper. To do this line the cut out with 6" strips of 1/2" ply, yes this will leave some sticking out into your utility room or what have you. Make it the right size and you can stick a standered size cabinet door on it. Door should have holes top and bottom for fans, bottom blowing in top sucking out. The mother board will probibly have it's ports upwardes. In the room that you want to use the comp. cut a hole about 9"long by 6"high. This is so you can plug all the toys in. Remember you are mounting the m/b with ports upward. line out the hole. As for your drives, you probably want to go and cut out a small area of sheetrock and replace it with the same thickness of ply. Run some finnishing timber around that and cut the holes for your drives and your done. 😀:beer:
 
i would like to say that indirectflow has horrible customer service. i ordered some fans from them, orders are suppose to be shipped out the next day yet i waited 2 wks and havent receive anything yet. so i called them and he told me that it will go out the next day. so i figure everything was good to go. waited another wk and nothing yet so i called them and now they are telling me that its on backorder. a wk ago, it was ready to be shipped out and now its on backorder? how shady is that plus the owner didnt even sound like he wanted my business. not even a sorry for the inconvience.

Well, it's almost a PC, so it probably can go here.

Anyway, here's my all new modded LuXBOX. I think I've rather overdone it with the LEDs. When you pay $12 each for a blue LED, you'd expect them be good, so I only installed 3. Well, I could probably have done with 1 - but they're superglued in place now, so there's no going back.

Hmm. I think I'd better add a switch.

What sucks is your links not working. Try doing a reply (quoting) to a post with links and you will see the code. It's simple enough. The easiest way to create a link is to click the "http" thingo in the blue bar on top of the editing window as you compose your post. Of course, you can cancel your send if you don't really want to post. As you can see, I've fixed all your links by doing a replace of each with [<the letter L>=Link] and each with [/<the letter L>].
