Nothing needs removed, I have all five ~5inch fans in the case. You cant tell very well in the photo due to the wiring, but theres plenty of extra room for this card.

Antec Super Lanboy
It fits... barely. Its squeezed in there pretty good, probably a fingernails space between the card and the drive cage. I'd probably recommend the GTS for this case, but it does fit as you can see.

Antec Performance II SX835 and 8800 GTX

It fits - not a LOT of room to spare, but it fits.

Lian-Li PC-777 - fits with about an inch left over. This case won't fit an oversized PSU though, so I think that only the Tagan and Silverstone will fit out of the 8800GTX SLI approved PSU's.

Antec P180 with GTS. Fits with the HDDs there, but the PCI-e power cable length is sitting in between the 2 HDDs.

It says the P180 won't allow the GTX to fit, but there are people that have got it to fit after removing the middle HDD cage.

I'm getting a 8800gtx in a week or two, I have a V1100 which is the same size as the V1000 so I'll check. It looks like it will be fine from the maxpc thread.

The 8800 GTS is the same size as the X1950 XTX and the 7900 GTX so it really won't have any problems fitting into most standard ATX cases.

I almost posted that earlier today.
I saw a picture on one of the 8800GTX/S reviews and they were comparing it to X1950XTX and a 7900GTX. The 8800GTS was basically the same.

So I guess the list is basically just for GTX owners then?

I use the Asus Vento 3600. Not only does it look gorgeous, but the 8800GTX fits in fine. The only issue is that I had to move the harddrive cage, but yea, that's about it.
