Recently upgrade my 466 celeron to a 1.0 gig celly on a Asus p2-99b m/b.Noticed the side of my case is warm where the cpu hsf exhausts. I checked the hsf, it is rather warm to the touch but not hot.I installed a case fan to suck in cool air but it made little difference.I took off the case, unplugged the case fan(too loud, kids and wife complained),cpu hsf is noticeably cooler.Other than drilling holes in the side of my case to let the hsf air exhaust, what are my options?I don't want to run with the case off.Thanks.

you said you tried an intake.......

don't forget to try an exhaust... unless there isn't a spot in your case :p

do you know any of your temperature readings?

I don't have an asus probe for my board to take temps,I only have the one spot in the front off the case
for a case fan.Its a baby at case, rather small. The only fan I have venting is the p/s fan. Also I am using a slotket so the hsf exhausts to the sides of the case instead of front to back. Thanks for the reply punkrawket.

you could put a blowhole in the top with a wholesaw for air to get out better

4thman, you said that you're running of an old baby AT case with your Asus P2B. Might be time to upgrade the case.

If you already have an ATX powersupply, then you could get something like an Antec SX600 $35.54 at provantage.com and re-use your old powersupply.

Ok thanks for the replies. My p/s is At style as well.A new case is a good idea but no $$$ right now.The only exhaust I have is thru the p/s fan. What if I reverse the case fan to suck air out thru the front?Maybe drill some holes on the side where the hsf exhausts.I could also remove a slot cover on the back of my tower just above the agp slot. What do ya's think? Thanks.

if you had a way to stick an exhaust fan around the HSF, that would be good. it will suck out warmer air that tends to collect around the HS. i wouldn't really know how plausible that is for you though :(

What's wrong with a halfsaw? :D
