Cartoon Protesters Rampage in Pakistan

Ok, it's getting harder and harder to dismiss this as some kind of overreaction and not conclude that the fanatics are just psychotic. Jeez, they aren't even destroying the right stuff, this may be the first time someone pissed off Muslims and it WASN'T us, what the hell are they attacking American businesses for? I mean, the level of rioting is kind of crazy anyways, but it's lost all point now, they aren't even angry at the right people.

I am not one of the Muslim hating types, or someone who thinks the behavior of members of a religious group are the responsibility of everyone in that religion, but I think that it's in the best interest of SOMEBODY to smack these idiots down hard. They are making their religion, and their part of the world, look like a bunch of fanatical morons.

I don't hate Muslims in any way at all

BUT... There is definitely something in their religion that has them wrapped a WEE BIT TOO TIGHT!

I don't really like organized religion in general and then when large numbers of a certain religion go off and do scary .. .VERY scary shiat like this.. it definitely makes that dislike even stronger

We need to build universities over there. That is the problem.

The education system in some of those countries is horrible.

In Pakistan they have schools where all you do 23 hours a day is memorize the Quran. That's it.

I don't think it has anything to do with their religion, I think they are a bunch of fvcking wackos who happen to be Muslim. The overlap has more to do with the region of the world than anything else. I imagine you find a lot more fanatical Muslims in Saudi Arabia than, say, Denver.

ummm KFC...

I worry about the fundies in my backyard before I worry about them thousands of miles away...

Are the police doing their job or silently agreeing with the protestors?😕

In Islamabad, about 180 miles northwest of Lahore, police appeared lax in trying to control protesters.

A dozen policemen looked on as 1,000-1,500 people, mostly students, rushed through the main entrance of the diplomatic enclave, smashing street signs and a bank window.

I disagree, I do think Islam is involved. It's not a coincidence that some of the most violent and unruly countries are Islamic...there is something about, of which I have no idea, that turns their people into raving lunatics that other religions do not.

I wouldn't label a whole part of the world as wackos 😉

Their culture and government and schools and law are all based on their religion.

**I guess you could say the leaders have been crazy for all these years and have spawned more craziness

Population Density of likeminded people has a lot to do with what one is willing to express

they're just trying to show the world how much they love their god and their prophet.

its europe's fault, really (those inconsiderate danes!), we can't hold the masses responsible. we can't expect them to show a measure of patience and self-control. who do we expect them to act like? Jesus?

Also a lot of the riots to steal stuff are starting to become mob type behavior that justifies anything. Reminded me when a few cars were trampled on campus when the Broncos won the superbowl back in 97/98 😉 Also when Iran defeated the USA and people ended up rioting over there.

Its amazing how we can seem to riot and steal stuff for almost anything...now if you exucse me, its 4:15 and I haven't eaten so I'm going to start a riot and steal some "food" from taco bell 😉

Why are the Muslims in the U.S not fanatical wackos?

On the contrary, I tend to this that this is the Islamic world (as a cultural entity) showing its true colors. They are setting themselves up to be the enemy of Western civilization.

Because there aren't enough of them yet relative to the general population. Like in Europe, we'd see an entirely different picture if there were enough of them to be a legitimate political and social force.

Oh yeah rioting because it is their religion, of course! People riot with justifacation all the time! Like back in 1992 with Rodney King, all those blacks did it because they were mad about what happened! We alllllllllllll know why that riot occured /sarcasm/

Because the ones that are smart enough to immigrate here get it...and they teach it to their kids, who are born American and realize the idiocy of their counterparts in other parts of the world? In those countries, religion rules all...

Edit: I want to make clear I don't think all Muslims over there are wacko, but the minority of them that are really puts a terrible image on Muslims in general.

I guess the Bible is responsible for the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades too?

How are those "raving lunatics" acting out here in America? That's right they have jobs and own homes. Maybe you should read up on the living conditions of these people before you blame their religion. It just so happens that most of those people acting out live in poverty and oppressed parts of the world. Do you think that if the converted to Mormonism they would suddenly act differently? Oh wait...

Humans are violent, especially when have no power and nothing to lose.

Do you see Africans, who are in a much worst plight blowing themselves up in the name of their religion? Do you see them rioting over cartoons? No. Poverty is no excuse for that kind of behavior.

Welcome to the education train. I am your driver, Aimster:

Yes there are.

There are areas where 100,000+ Muslims live.

Don't even give me that excuse.

There are Muslim groups in the U.S that are large enough to hold massive protest if required.

I think it is because those here have a better life. Why should we riot? We are just like other American taxpayers and people will listen to us if we write letters and "show the money".

Do we see the wealthy rioting at all? How about the Saudi Royal Family? Where are they in midst in this? I would think they are the ones leading the charge. Where are the ediotorialists in the paper who condemed this? Where are the huge Eygption riots by their middle class. The rich, or the well off, don't riot. PERIOD. Anyone that isn't dirt poor in the Middle East will not be caught near these riots. Protests maybe, denunciations maybe (even the rich would stay away from this), but they would never be caught near a riot.
Our religious groups here never resort to rioting because we don't need to. When was the last time we had massive Christian/Buddhist/Sikh/Hindu/Muslim or atheist riots? This isn't because America changes our religions, it is because we don't need too because it simply does not help us in any way.

No, its always poor people, because they don't have anything better. Then again the only way to weild any kind of influence or get someone's attention is to resort to this kind of behavior. They do it to try to get attention, and on top of it it doubles as a good way to get free stuff that otherwise you would have to pay for. For them its a win win situation, because they don't have much to lose.

I am not saying I agree with their rioting or I sympathsize, so please don't draw that conclusion. I'm just saying that I, unlike the dirt poor ones in the middle east and parts of Europe, do not have to.
