Carson Palmer to the Raiders

The broncos traded cutler for orton. That was as retarded as a raiders move.

Pretty much this. Cutler is a good quarterback when they give him 3 seconds in the pocket. That is 2.5 seconds longer than what the Bears O-line gives him right now

Even at two 1st's it's not bad if Palmer is good. I don't evaluate film and wouldn't know what to look at even if I did so I can't say whether or not Palmer is worth it. All I've ever heard though on the nfl shows is that Palmer is a good to great QB. Could be a good move.

Dallas traded two 1st's for Joey Galloway and then later traded two 1st's for Roy Williams. Now those were stupid moves.

If Palmer screws up and the team ends up 4-12 at the end of the season, then it will be an Al Davis legacy. However, if Palmer does really well and the Raiders end up winning 10 or 11 games, this will be seen as a genius move.

It's actually the 2012 1st round pick and the 2013 2nd round pick for Carson

Horrible decisions make people (and NFL football teams) desperate.

ftfy

The Raiders have no one to blame but themselves. Does anyone really think Palmer will be that much better than Kyle Orton or even (gulp!) Vince Young would have been? Both could have been had for much less than a 1 and a 2. How about Ryan Mallett? I'm sure the Pats would have given up one of their backups for a 2nd round pick. Hell, I'd even take Matt Leinart, Shaun Hill or Jon Kitna for a 3rd+ round pick over Palmer for a 1 and 2.

Carson = trash. Always has been, always will be.

Not always. He was great in college and had 3 or 4 great years in the NFL. How he fell so far I don't know but maybe a change of scenery will do him some good. I think they'd be better off with Matt Leinart, I would have said Charlie Whitehurst too but it looks like he's going to start for the Hawks with Tjax out. Basically the Raiders are just in a really rough spot right now.

As a Bengals fan since Palmer was drafted, I can't say the trade favored the Raiders, but I do think Palmer has plenty left in the gas tank and will play well. I don't think Raiders fans have to worry about that. He's a hell of a QB and really went downhill the past 3 or so years because he was getting sick of the organization and the other antics with Ochocinco and Owens (last year).

Raiders will be fine, assuming Palmer learns the playbook quickly. From what I've read, he's been constantly working out to keep in shape just in case he was traded.

The way I look at this is that Palmer is league better than Campbell; Palmer will be playing behind a good O-line, better than his old O-line at Bengals and a more rounded offensive team.

Hue Jackson and Palmer has a history, even way back from his Heisman days, they'll click together again. Yes, the first round and conditional first round may seem expensive, but it's no guaranteed that the Raiders will get somebody good (given their draft records).

Palmer is a pro-bowl caliber QB, and if this is what the Raiders need, they may have a chance with him. If you look at all other available choices, they would have no chance at the title if they pick anyone else this year. If by given up two first rounders for a Lombardi trophy, would you? I would.

Yes it's a gamble, but I think they'll do well for at least the next four years. They will be contenders.

I think the only QB that is worth 2012 1st and 2013 2nd rounder is Aaron Rodgers of GB.

AFC west belong to the chargers this year. 🙂

It's like betting your house on #23. Probably won't work out. If it works out and you win, it's great. More likely, it won't work out and you're screwed for many years.

The upside is that the Raiders only really need a game manager like Campbell since they're a running team. They could use a QB who can go deep to their speedy guys. Palmer sort of fits that bill. The problem is that his arm strength has gone down a lot ever since he got the elbow surgery a few years ago. He's also kind of expensive with regard to the salary cap.

They overpaid by *a lot* with the new rookie scales but I can see why they did it. Everyone remembers Jim Plunkett and can't be worse than JMR, right?

I am not sure why people think he is a good quarterback. He had one great year (05), one good year (06) and the rest are pretty mediocre. His good years were over 5 years ago. Aside from those 2 years, his QB rating is almost exactly the same as Jason Campbell. They basically traded a 1st and 2nd round pick for Jason Campbell.

He won't do anything in Oakland in my opinion. They overpaid.

Damn, Kyle Boller must be fucking terrible if they choose to start someone with zero knowledge of their playbook ahead of him.

Palmer has worked with the coach before, so I think he has knowledge. They also could have sent him the playbook before to review, etc. We don't know how it's handled.

I guess this means that in addition to not resigning Jason Campbell, the Raiders might axe Kyle Boller and keep Palmer and Pryor as their QBs.

Is this a stupid trade? Probably.

However, if you think that Palmer can be your guy for 5 and play at an elite level then you probably have to make the trade. The Raiders have been 1 dimensional relying on their running game. Having a QB who can potentially play at an elite level not only opens up their passing game but keeps defenses honest.

What were the other options? McNabb? LOL. Orton? Might have been a better/cheaper option.

It all comes down to if Palmer can play to his potential or not in Oakland. If the answer ends up being yes then the trade is worth it. If no, then the trade was one of the biggest trade rapes of all time.

This trade is going to either be highly successful or a disaster. It won't be any middle ground.

Anyways, any draft pick can be a bust. JaMarcus Russell, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Kentwan Balmer, Brady Quinn, Ted Ginn, Jr., Knowshon Moreno, C. J. Spiller, Anthony Gonzalez, and Aaron Curry are all flat out busts since 2007 that I can think of off the top of my head. There are probably more.

CJ Spiller is not a bust and does just fine in his role.
Knowshow is hardly a bust either, although more was expected of him.
