It sucks. Costs as much or more than real hard woods, adds nothing to your home's value, and even hurts it in some cases, and isn't as tough to boot...regardless of what the manufacturers say. Heck, if it gets wet, it can warp...easily.Originally posted by: r6ashih

Put it in your trailer, but not your house.

And the dog would have destroyed a laminate floor, too. It's not any tougher, it will warp, and you can't resurface it like you can your hardwoods.Originally posted by: vi_edit

That is incorrect. Most Pergo/Laminate is much more scratch/scuff resistant than just about ANY true hardwood. It's a great option if you have pets. My $8 sq/ft brazillian cherry hardwood (one of the hardest out there) has been destroyed by my 80 pound dog. FWIW, the dog has her nails clipped weekly too.

My grandma's little Peekapoo put scratches all over her Pergo.
Plus, you still have the value factor.

She must have some low end stuff then. I took some of the Pergo laminates (and a Mohawk one) over to the hardware section of Lowes and beat on them with a hammer and went at them with a screwdriver to see if I could scuff them. Couldn't do it.
Some hardwoods on the other hand I can scratch with just my thumbnail. Laminates will hold up better. Go into any flooring store and tell them that you have a big pet and honest one will steer you to the laminates.

She had actual Pergo, not the cheap knock-offs.
I'm not saying that laminates suck outright all across the board, just that for most people, real hardwoods are better.
For value of the home, hardwoods are better. For looks, hardwoods are better.
Note that I'm talking about REAL hardwoods....floors that are put in bare, then sanded and finished in place. Not those prefinished, beveled hardwoods.
I have hardwoods, and have 3 dogs, from 50-70 lbs..plus 5 cats and two kids....no scratches.

Lol, it gets dirty at the same pace as carpet, except carpet hides it. Now think how nasty the carpet has to be![]()
