Ummm... AWD means nothing if the front tires are sliding, the rear tires will just keep pushing that car in the direction it wants to go.

Now if my car had TC then it may have helped.

The best traction control is between the steering wheel and the driver's seat. When it's raining you decide to slow down. That solves almost every problem.

Also, if you had called a tow truck and cops on your own you would have really reduced the headaches you've caused yourself. If you're there and talk to the cop they think of you as a guy that's got hit with some bad luck. If they find the abandoned car they think you're some idiot, quite possibly drunk, who drove irresponsibly and flew off the road.

Just wait till you see the cost of towing and impounding the car too, those rates are typically much higher than if you arranged it yourself. And now you'll probably have to pay for a tow to get your car from the impound to a place to repair it.

Sorry about your car OP. That really sucks. Really should have called it in though. I mean think about it. They probably found your wrecked car and thought maybe you crawled out of it injured looking for help. They probably searched all over the place in a frigging rain storm for you and here you are chilling at your friends house having a beer. I can understand the cops reaction and I would gladly pay the ticket and apologize to him/her.

Don't worry OP, I'm on your side. Bad motherfuckers like us don't care if we drive into a ditch/tree/cliff/baby. We just leave the car there and go about our business as if nothing happened. We have more important things to worry about.

If I was the cop, I would have assumed you were shitfaced on a Friday night, speeding, lost control, then ended up in the ditch. Since you were so obviously inebriated, you stumbled off and went home, slept it off, and came back for your vehicle.

Yup, it was over $250 when I had my car towed a few years ago because I forgot to move it for street cleaning. I didn't even get a ticket for that one either, I just needed to pay the tow and impound fees.

TPMS has a pretty wide tolerance before it alerts to a low tire. Unless you have the type that diplays the pressure and you checked it.

Also, if the corner was slippery, did you consider that someone else might come along and crash into your abandoned vehicle?

You don't hydroplane off the road unless you are a) going too fast for conditions or b) have bad tires and are going too fast for conditions. Being careless behind the wheel puts other people in danger.

Look up the OEM tires on a 08 Legacy, they are HORRIBLE in the rain; I just got that car a few months ago (cert Pre-owned) and found that out the hard way. And yes, I wasn't thinking correctly before I got a lesson in physics because I was driving to see a friend of over eight years because I needed someone to talk to; hence why I just walked away from the car, I was already in a funk and was shaken up.

Like I said, chalk this up to inexperience.

Hmmm....just stop making excuses. It happened because you were being irresponsible, period. The crappy OEM tire is irrelevant, your inexperience is irrelevant. I can bet you that the OEM tires on my Mazda 3 were worse. I even drove them when they were bald in snow and rain and i still did not get into an accident.

Had something similar parking near an Ex. (Before she was an Ex.)

The road was a "no park here when snowing" road, although it made little sense. One week, we got over a foot of snow overnight and I spent a few hours the next digging my car out.

The time I got towed, we had less than 6 inches. I guess they only tow you if it is easy for them.
