Brand new it was $572. (That was a good deal at the time) A comparable bike is around $1000 these days. (Say from Trek, Jami, Giant, Cannondale, etc.)
I loved my bike and now it's gone. Some thief took it about an hour and a half ago.
I'm not getting it back either. Cars you can get back. Bikes are gone forever. Reported it to the cops online as having a value of $450 because I didn't want to deal with an in-person reporting. It won't ever be found or noticed, but it's just to add to the stats...
EDIT: To elaborate, I was not near my residence. I was out near Greenlake (Seattle) and had locked up my bike on the sidewalk (No other option). It was about 10:30PM when my bike was stolen. I had checked it once or twice to make sure it was still there... and then when I went to leave (30-45 minutes after my last check), it was gone. I had no way to keep visibility of it while it was out there. The lock was not there, which leads me to believe that the thief didn't break it and instead unlocked it and then took it with them. So, that's that. It's a $1000 bike these days because Tiagra rear/front/sti-shifters, alum frame, and carbon fork don't come cheap from most brands. Even a shitty bike from bikes direct is about $650-750 for that and that's low quality as it gets. Name brands will be at least $1,000.
