Car Tailgates Cyclist - Car Gets Pulled Over

I figured I'd comment that the cyclist should have been clubbed. Didn't watch the video, but the guy was on a bike, so he was in the wrong. I don't care how expensive your bikes, how stretchy your spandex is, or how precise your hand signals are; it doesn't change the fact you're riding a toy on a road where cars drive. Also, there is a 90% chance you're a pretentious twat about riding bikes as well. Yeah, I used to be a "cyclist" too; and then I turned 16 and learned to drive an adult vehicle.

Wow, that much stupidity, arrogance, and ignorance all in one post, I'm impressed..

Troll post?

Its illegal in most places to ride a bike on the sidewalk.

Do you have evidence of this because I have never heard of it. You only use the street if there is a line designated for bikes. If not you're supposed to ride on the sidewalk.

not sure if srs.

what state do you live in?

I know you're gonna bring that ”cyclists have cars” up. I have cars, I pay taxes, you know what else? I also pay registration fees for any cars I have so that I can use them on public roads. You only pay registration fees for your car, you already have the privilege of sharing the road without paying. I don't demand a special lane, why do cyclists?

Ok, sure, here's your special lane, now everyone who pays for registering a car gets a "special lane", guess the road's gonna get pretty wide, huh?. the lane is so bike can traverse the road without (hopefully) getting clobbered by some numbnuts in a car. Really, you should just give it up at this point, you've been ass-raped by a dozen people in this thread, isn't that enough?, I can't ever recall seeing the gang-banging you've absorbed and still keep posting..

You forgot one part, buddy, and that is the drivers in part paid for the use of the road through vehicle registration fees. Bicyclists don't pay shits, but demand the part of the road that only they can ride in, while still retaining the use of the car lane.

Your analogy falls apart when one of your roommates don't pay rent and demand equal use of the domicile.

Humpy, there's a reason everyone ignored your posts, you're irrelevant. That was pity that prompted this sentence.

I haven't owned a bike for over a decade now. Honestly, when I am driving, I don't like seeing cyclists ahead or next to me but that's within reason while you are completely irrational about it.

Overall you are just making a hateful arguments against cyclists that ranges from childish to insane but let's dismantle the "drivers pay for the road part.
By your logic, pedestrians shouldn't cross roads and you should be able to hop into a firetruck, ambulance or a police car because you "pay for it", so stupid you are bound to get a ride in either one.

You are judging in the most primitive terms, assigning a vehicle's "right" to use the road based on it's size, appearance and fragility.

Gah cyclists, for your own sanity and safety, get off the roads. Make some calculated decisions for your well-being instead of being a hard-headed stickler for laws.

We cycle at parks and bike paths.

Man, I know anyone that contests with their lives against automobiles have to be special, I just didn't know it brought out ALL the special people. You guys should really read some of your circular and faulty logic used for arguments, make for good comedy. I don't even know where to begin to argue against some of the bat shit insane analogies you people come up with.

Anyways, fight on, please do contest against cars more, because strong independent and empowered feminists world saving and wonderful people you all are.

Pardon me if I don't partake in anymore of these silly debates, frankly, I don't have the care to address all your wrongs. But, take care of yourselves, you misguided souls.

Yes I'm being serious. Not trying to be an ass. I live in Nevada so yes a sparsely populated state where people don't walk anywhere except for the strip or downtown, but during all my 30 sum odd years I never heard that "you are NOT supposed to ride your bike on the sidewalk; please use the side of the street instead".

In all of the conversations I've had with parents, family, neighbors, co-workers, during elementary school, middle school, etc. I've never heard that rule. When you're a kid you ride on the sidewalk and when you get older you still ride on the sidewalk. The only time you ride on the street is when the street is painted for it or when there is no sidewalk.

I can understand such a rule in SFO or NY or Chicago since there are many pedestrians that use the sidewalk, but how about in a smaller town/city where nobody ever walks??

In the video the bike rider was totally blocking the regular flow of traffic with his bike. Yes he was going impressively fast, but still I don't think it is "legal" for him to be there. I'm sure if that guy was in my town and a cop rolled up behind him he would've gotten pulled over, assuming there was a sidewalk there.

A biker riding on a sidewalk at 20 mph is a disaster waiting to happen with children, elderly, handicap, someone walking out of store front and not looking, etc... NV must be the only state with this law if you're not trolling.

I commute to work every day to work two miles by bike. I can get to work faster by bike than a car. If I had to ride on sidewalks, I would either have to ride super slow to avoid hitting someone or would eventually kill someone on the sidewalk.

In which case, he should be on the side walk with the other non-motorized traffic. Thats why tax payers paid to have it built in the first place.

Granted, I've only lived in three states, but none of them had such idiotic ordinances on the books. Or if they did, LEO recognized them as idiotic and never enforced them.

I would like to know what states you are talking about. I'd bet it is illegal to ride a bicycle on a sidewalk in those states.

Here is the area of that video in Skokie, Illinois. I live a few towns over and am familiar with the area. The biker is riding west to east along Oakton Street, a fairly congested and major thoroughfare. The video starts just over Edens Expy (94) at the intersection of Oakton and Gross Point Road. This is exactly where the street narrows. The video ends right at Skokie Village Hall.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/S...87,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xc25a57c90059e4ea

The road narrows in that area while remaining two lanes in each direction. There is enough traffic congestion in that area to make it difficult for cars to pass a bicycle. A relatively slowly accelerating bicycle, even one as fast as that guy was, will frustrate car drivers unable to keep up with accelerating traffic. A wider lane would allow cars to move around a bicycle easier, which drivers often do in this area in a courteous, thoughtful, and safe manner. Cars easily move around bicycles when the lane is wide enough and the bicyclist moves over but as Ns1 mentioned, there was not enough room for a bike to move to the side and have vehicles go around safely, so the biker needed to take center lane, which is fine.

Except that he shouldn't have been there in the first place. For his own safety.

That area has a few bike paths, one very nice and long path in particular. That area also has parallel side streets and designated bike lanes that could be traversed just as well and much safer for getting from point A to B. Riding a road bike like that is not about getting from point A to B but for exercise.

A bike rider needs to stay out of such traffic if they value their safety. He put himself directly into congested traffic. It is similar to a jogger deciding to jog along a densely packed road with foul air from vehicle exhaust when there is a perfectly good neighborhood right there to safely jog within, out of traffic and with better air quality. The decisions people make regarding their safety are not always the correct ones.

If I was riding that route, I would have crossed the intersection at Gross Point, taken Central Ave south, then taken the first parallel street east, which is Kirk St. Then I would have continued along Galitz, crossed Niles Center Rd to follow Lincoln Ave. Then to continue traveling east parallel to Oakton, I would have taken Babb Ave north to Louise St to its end, then rejoined with Oakton to cross the highway at Skokie Blvd.

No, quite the opposite.

chusteczka, you ignorant twit. We're talking about a road that has two lanes in each direction. The cyclist in the video was in the right lane. He passed a car that was in the left lane. The car the left lane was impeding traffic. To place any blame on the cyclist you have to be both blind and stupid.

Nevada is actually a more progressive "bike friendly" state which passed the 3-foot law:

When overtaking or passing a bicycle or electric bicycle
proceeding in the same direction, the driver of a motor vehicle
shall exercise due care and:
(a) If there is more than one lane for traffic proceeding in the
same direction, move the vehicle to the lane to the immediate left,
if the lane is available and moving into the lane is reasonably safe;
or
(b) If there is only one lane for traffic proceeding in the same
direction, pass to the left of the bicycle or electric bicycle at a safe
distance, which must be not less than 3 feet between any portion of – 2 –
-
the vehicle and the bicycle or electric bicycle, and shall not move
again to the right side of the highway until the vehicle is safely
clear of the overtaken bicycle or electric bicycle.

While Nevada does not make riding your bike on the sidewalk illegal, it also does not require that cyclist use any lane or path other than a normal vehicular lane. The one caveat is that the cyclist is supposed to ride as far right as practical, unless it is unsafe to do so, they are passing a vehicle/going the same speed as the flow of traffic, or making a left hand turn. In your town, that guy would not have been pulled over.

I'll translate that for everyone, " I was completely wrong but kept on arguing with those that possess common sense, I'm too stupid to realize that some people just don't have the $$ to buy a car but need to get to work or others who want the exercise and find riding fun. In my world anyone who does anything different than me is a libtard-feminist and deserves to be run over by an Armada and his/her's entrails hosed off my bumper when I get home"..

Bicycle and motorcycle riders should be rounded up and put in a concentration camp where they can ride around in circles all day.

Moronic people should be rounded up and put in a concentration camp with no internet access, just a LAN, then they can post stupid shit back and forth all day.

Or you could just learn to drive, I've never come close to ever hurting or harassing a cyclist and I live in the fittest state in the US, they are everywhere here. I spend a minimum of 70 minutes on the road in 100% non-highway city traffic every weekday too so my odds are plenty high, I just drive better.

Tell the elderly to learn to drive. Because THAT will certainly help!

Doesn't matter if you're a driver or a cyclist. You cannot control other drivers. I don't care how good a driver you are. That is completely irrelevant since you or I are not every single car out there.

I've never been given a ticket and never been in an accident, my fault or the others, been driving over 20 years now. What is your stats? The real ones, not your internet ones.

the guy in the car in this situation should have just drove better, they got the ticket they deserved end of story, you are right, we can't control them, but I'm not going to come to their defense because a cyclist made them go ape. Every bad driver these days has an excuse on why they get to get pissed, they were in the left lane, they were going to slow, they didn't hit the gas right when the light turned green. Get pissed and make bad judgements while driving then you are a bad driver, PERIOD.

Read: "I just got my ass handed to me in fine shavings"

The only time I've really been pissed is when a cyclist rode in the driving lane when there was a perfectly good bike lane to use on his right.

The problem is with commuters, who have to take a certain route even if theres no good path.

Recreation isnt where we keep having accidents.

I don't mind cycles on the road so long as they don't pick and choose which rules they want to follow. That's where you get the hate.

Exactly! Assholes bicyclist run stop signs around here all the damn time and they're the ones complaining about cars almost hitting them.
