Have you tried Crutchfield? If you're just changing the head unit, you'll need to take off whatever paneling is needed to have access to the head unit. Then you'll need to know the wiring diagram of your vehicle and then patch the wires to your new unit.

its easy to install car stereos... i can give you instructions....

go to your closest auto shop (ie... Auto Zone).. show em your car and your stereo... theyll match a harness for you to buy. and hopefully hook you up w/ some brackets....

then... get in your car.. stick the males into the females of the matching colored wires.... and plug the other end of the harness into your deck.. the replace the screws and your done...

i am assuming that you know how to remove your other deck... and make sure you ground it if there's no black wire included in the harness....

Check out your local car parts places, sometimes they'll sell install kits for ~$20 that have everything you need. The one I got (came with my unit from 800.com) was fairly good, some stuff was off but I still managed to do it (actually did the entire process 4+ times due to a bad FM tuner in my unit)

The factory radio should be held in place by one or two screws - you need to look behind and see what screws are holding it in.

Regarding the new HU installation, with Pioneers it's easy - put the mounting sleeve in, bend the tabs, and pop the new one in. (Takes < 5 minutes)

just look for any screws around your stereo... like in the back and what not.. take em all out and the stereo should slide right out..

once you figure out how to take it out you should be able to put it all back...

Goto a local stereo shop or Best Buy and get a kit. In there you will find the instructions on removal and installation. On a 1996 GMC you need to remove the bezel around the stereo, then it is 2 or 4 screwed to get the stereo out.. Is that stereo a typical stereo or one amde to fit GM's and Chryslers? if it is the latter, you dont even NEED the kit... in fact you prolly cant buy one. If it is hte former and needs a kit, jsut follow the instructions... as much as it may pain you to do so :):) Worst comes to worst, goto the local stereo shop and ask.

Electricice,
I just bought the same deck a few days ago and haven't had it installed. How is the deck overall? Do you notice a difference in sound with it?

savage, thers a hudge difference. the deks great i love it. mines in a truck so it fill with sound easy but i have the factory speakers and no sub and still get nice crsip sound and much better base then i thought could ever come out of a factory system. also if you can work a screwdriver i recomend instaiilng it your self. itsvery easy and saves you 50 bucks. the only thing i dont like about it is the way the face comes off. it scares me to take it off because i feel like im gonna break it. other then thats its amazing. very cool display excelent soudn and it has the ability to expand to accomidate a hudge system.

If you go to a locak Car Audio joint and buy the mounting bracket (which I am pretty sure you will need) it will actually come with instructions on how to take the existing panel off and all that good stuff.

electricrice, and all those who are thinking about getting the unit:
first off, congrats on a great choice.
secondly, practice taking the face on and off until u can do it comfortably and smoothly. here's a tip when taking it off - slide it right, then pull the left end off first. took me awhile to figure out. before that, i felt like i was going to break the face in less than a week.

when i first put the HU in and tested it with only the stock speakers, i couldn't believe my ears. it made such a huge difference. it did not sound like i was running stock speakers at all with the powerful HU amp.
i finally replaced the front speakers with Kenwood's and bridged the rear channels to power a sub. again, definitely a huge improvement from stock speakers. it's the best setup without an amp.
