Car salesman taken to the next level

EightySix Four

Diamond Member
Madeline Leonard, who suffers from an unnamed mental disability, visited Mazda of Orangeville to have new tires put on her 2004 Mazda3. By the time she left, she'd purchased a 3,700-mile, ex-demo Mazda6 for about 6,000 Canadian Loonies more than the sticker price of a new one. The ever-helpful salesman also threw in every package in the book, charging up to three times their book value for things like window etching and undercoating. All that meant Madeline paid roughly 25,000 Loonies ($24,000) more than she should have. Madeline lives on a $1,900-a-month government subsidy.

And to top it off...

"We didn't do anything wrong in the case of this transaction," said the dealer's business manager. "We made a little bit of money on the deal. I guess she was not happy with it."

Holy crap that is low. The punishment in this situation could never be enough.

I had to re-read it, then saw she was mentally disabled...probably not the best person to take advantage of..

So...She was "mentally disabled" enough to pay $63,000 for a used Mazda 6, yet "mentally fit" enough to pass a driving test and be allowed to drive on public roads. Sorry, having a hard time feeling pity here.

The point is not pity for the woman, but disdain for the dealer.

People that fucking stupid has no business being on the road, or being paid a $2k a month by the government for breathing.

Dealers that slimy should have no business to run at all. Sue their ass to pay for that woman's subsidy.

She probably has no business being on the road BUT it did not name the disability; it's possible she is perfectly agile/dextrous but, for example, is socially awkward/inept.

If the story is true it sounds like an existing law will put these guys and dealership to the grind. Scumbags.

Yea, assholes like these kind of ruined free markets for honest working folk. The progressives stuck people like this asshole on their "regulate teh econ lolololol!" banner and we've been steadily trampled on by these progressives and their bureaucrat stooges ever since.

Really is quite pathetic, the whole situation.

I have an adopted cousin who's mentally disabled, he's normal except when it comes to money. Give him a $100 bill he'll go to the ice cream man, get something give the driver the $100 and walk away. He has zero concept of money or what it's worth. If I gave him 5 $1 bills for his birthday he'd be just as happy as if I gave him 5 $100 bills. Talking to him you wouldn't notice anything different about the way he acts. I suspect this female might be similar.

Not the case here. "Despite falling for the con, it was Madeline that noticed lower sticker prices at other dealers in town and notified authorities." Oh, she didn't notice the lower than $63,000 MSRP window stickers on all the other mazda 6's on the same dealers lot? I'm really not trying to be a smart ass here, people who can make this kind of mental misjudgment really don't need to be out operating a 3,000lbs plus vehicle with the rest of us.

Also, while I don't wish to take up for the salesman/dealership, I'm quite sure he didn't set out to rip her off by $20K. His job is to make a profit, I'm sure he initially offered her xxx service and/or accessory like they pretty much do to everyone. She said sure, I'd like to have that. So on and so forth it went. Was he to say, "Mam, I'm sorry I won't allow you to purchase the extended warranty"? She went to get tires, and got caught up in power of possession syndrome.

That's an interesting angle YBS1, but I'm not sure I buy it. Some people are that much of a scum. But considering how left wing journalists are maybe they were trying to slander the business.

I think the bottom line is that it depends on her mental illness. But again, WTF is she doing driving????

This doesn't matter until we know this:

I think the bottom line is that it depends on her mental illness.

Like I said, someone with severe Asperger's syndrom would not be able to deal with the pressure of a sales person pushing them to buy a car, but would otherwise be able to be a semi-normal functioning member of society. They could easily go to school, work, and drive while being socially inept.

There are many other mental illnesses which could cause a similar situation. Attacking the woman is not the right course here, at least not without further information.

Than the question is: why did she go alone to the dealer?

You can see this 2 ways:
a) It's the dealers fault for taking advantage of this person.

b) It's the persons fault for going alone to the dealer.

Or did this person do it on purpose to sue the dealer to get a new, really expansive car, for free?

I still am not convinced. I know a guy with aspergers and no way in hell would he be able to drive. Driving itself is a big deal that people take for granted but there is a ton of pressure. If that female encountered a high risk/pressure situation, she'd probably panic and let go of the steering wheel. I still fail to see how she was qualified at all. I was pissed at the dealership but more and more something is making sense.

The fact she then went around checking other prices is doubly suspicious.

I smell a serious Canadian rat

If only 95% of the ATOT could get the $1900 stipend a month for being socially inept.

Yea, your cousin is normal except he's FUCKING RETARDED.

I don't buy it. A shark can pick up the scent of blood. If you see someone foaming at the mouth and willing to pay full price for a used vehicle to begin, you start adding it on.

Taking advantage is taking advantage. Scum is scum.

A) Yes, that's why they are getting sued

B) Correct, and for being able to afford a $30K car for doing shit all day <- mostly the government's fault.

C) Then that means the person is not so mentally disabled after all, again the government's fault.

The problem is that we don't exactly know what happens, who asked whom what.

But honestly: that story stinks, I don't think that's really the dealers fault, it smells to me like a scam...

The salesman charged OVER the sticker price of a new vehicle on a used one. I'm sorry, but he had to have known something was wrong with this person and took advantage of her.

The salesman would be a scum bag if she had no disability, he threw in everything and overcharged for it all.

better link to show just how sleazy the salesmen were.

I think the moral of the story here is obvious:

The government subsidizes people, they lose all sense of accountability and responsibility. If she was not supported by the government, she probably would be with family who could protect her from idiots like the dealer. OR, she might have worked a job, I know plenty of mentally deficient people who have a job, it may not be the best, but they even work two and know they're somewhat independent. This woman looks no different than any of the ones I know who do this, and if she was working, perhaps she'd have a greater appreciation of how to say no.

It doesn't take Einstein to say "I just want new tires." or even "slow down, I'm the customer, if you're going to pull this shit, I'm going else where."

I have seen everyone say this, from blacks, to whites to anti social dicks, to sociable people, it's called being responsible and being accountable. I'm more pissed at this subsidized piece of entitled shit who already is leaching off society, and is now threatening a business because of her damned incompetence.

Good job Canada!

edit: this sums it up:

“I was overwhelmed and confused and I soon felt like I had been mistreated,” the 56-year-old woman said in an interview from her small, subsidized apartment in the town 85 km northwest of Toronto.
No fucking shit genius, you didn't take responsibility, you don't need an IQ of 160 to do that, don't you know? Frankly the more I think about this, the more it really makes me realize that governments who do subsidize are enabling stupid idiots--perhaps they hope to accumulate them and win themselves more votes, Chicago Machine style. That's probably it, but it's a good warning and moral for the rest of us.

If you need government to protect yourself from people trying to sell you services, you're essentially saying you have zero confidence in yourself and all of it in the government. Fascist/Communist Police state, anyone?
